Really frustrating experience trying to find the returns lot. I say this because it's obvious that you need to return it at the train station, but the roads are often one-way traffic with many circles and intersections, so you need to heavily rely on the GPS to guide you to the very back side of the train station, even though there's nothing indicating that you should go back there. The address listed on Google Maps and on the Avis reservation did NOT lead us to the lot! It took us a while to find the lot, and we rent a LOT of cars from Avis, both in the US and abroad. Once we found the lot, we were told we needed to show our gas receipt, even though nobody told us we needed to do that when we picked the car up from an Avis in Barcelona. Thankfully the guy just looked at our gas meter and realized that we did just fill the tank to full and he didn't give us a hard time, but the poor communication is very irritating.
Disappointed!! They say they make a charge on your card that they will refund, but you don't get your money back even when you return the tank full. It's going to cost you double! Yes, I did reach out to you over email, no response in 2 weeks! I reached out o er Facebook they said to wait 30-45 business days to even look at my case!!!!?!? Really!?? You need to hire more people to handle your requests with all the money you're stealing!
Had previously rented many cars from Avis before without any issue, no car though ever as damaged as this. The car we received this time was scratched, dented and damaged in multiple places across the exterior. Difficult to find where damage hadn't been recorded. Woeful return experience, poorly sign posted as to where to return then agent accused us of adding damage to an already damaged part of the car and added it to our bill despite our protests. Word of advice to other renters, photograph everything and make Avis document everything in graphic detail including the small stuff no matter how poor the exterior condition is of your car. Last time I will use Avis! So disappointed.
Almost an hour at the counter to get agreement. And then got a car that had be smashed on the passenger side. Unbelievable. And rude when I said this was unacceptable and needed another car.
Are not customer oriented read through the terms of conditions well and take the piss out of everyone who wants to rent a car. Booked a car, they didn't want to hand it over because they don't accept credit and debit cards although it is required in the terms of conditions. Instead they wanted to sell 2 new cars for over 2200 euros with an insurance of 542 euros insurance for 5 days per car. Simply a rip-off and unprofessional behavior. Will never use this Avis in any country.
Great experience! I read prior reviews and i was worried. There was no wait at 10am on a weekday. The car was ready, clean, and full of fuel. I had them mark one wheel rim that was scuffed. The staff were kind and polite. There were no surprises. We returned the car per the plan at Malaga airport with no issues. Well done Avis.
Friendly but chaotic service, both for collection and return. Expect long waits. I was given a car with a fuel tank that was only 4/5 full according to the display, with a claim that the car did have a full tank but there was a problem with "bubbles in the sensor" which is why it only shows 4/5 full. Also told I must return the car with a full tank, otherwise I would be charged for the fuel plus a recharging fee. Of course, I could fill the tank completely and the display clearly showed the tank was full, so the claim about the faulty sensor was not true. Presumably, the person before me did not return the car with a full tank, they were charged by Avis, and then I end paying for the fuel that person used when I filled the tank to full on return - a nice little earner for the franchise if they do this multiple times. I explained this to the representative when I returned the car but he had no interest in resolving the issue or refunding me for the fuel I did not use, which means I now need to write a letter of complaint to Avis. Scams like this are so disappointing and seem to be a particular problem at car hire outlets at Spanish airports, even when they are part of a big firm like Avis. Question and check everything, photograph every part of the car on collection and return (including the fuel gauge and mileage), and keep receipts for your refuelling at drop off. There is a Repsol petrol station about 1km before the airport, accessed via the service road (Avinguda d'els Arcs) that runs to the right of the main road.
Booked on line and prepaid. Still had to wait in line for almost 2 hours to collect the car. Woefully managed and understaffed. No separate line for walk in versus Avis Preferred. Avoid if you can. Otherwise give yourself several hours to collect a car.
