Getting the car was quick since I used QuickPass. The vehicle was clean and well maintained. Returning was very prompt and efficient. I had a good experience.
I came to drop off the car at Seville airport and the agent was sooooooooo rude, she literally opened the door and kicked me out of the office saying that we are not open and we can't accept any questions until we open! It was 7:30am and as she said we open at 8am. The agent in Madrid instructed me to return the car to the agent and the agent in Sevilla airport instructed me otherwise. Such a disappointing experience. The agent refused to give me her name and started covering her face with the documents she has in hand. Unprofessional and not well trained staff. Moreover, they wanted to charge me 200 EUR for the road assistance service when the previous car I've rented got broken.
Beware. Caution. Don't get caught out. During our holiday in Spain, somebody maliciously put a scratch along the side two doors of our Avis hire car. I had basic level insurance from Avis with any excess to be reimbursed by independent 3rd party cover - it's way of avoiding opportunistic charges for over-priced "in-house" insurance. Easy? Actually yes, but potentially catastrophic. When I reviewed the excess on the policy I was absolutely mortified to find that it was set at the value of the car! This meant I was essentially driving around uninsured as my excess policy was limited to PS10,000 on a PS30,000 car! Avis were not interested in discussing the T&C's in their policy which states all their vehicles come with a basic level of cover. Well, not this one. Their excuse was I'd booked it through an American version of their website even though I booked it online in Seville. How is the customer possibly expected to know this and why isn't it rectified on collection? You certainly need your wits about you. Luckily I got most of it paid back from our brilliant excess insurance cover with Leisure Guard. The opportunistic Avis EUR180+VAT "location surcharge" wasn't fully refunded though (understandably). Total bill approx EUR1400. Also, try discussing the extra charges when you return the car and you get a roll of the eyes and "your credit card has already been debited". Then you have to leave to catch your flight and pick up the pieces later. A miserable experience. Conclusion? Never again Avis, just family owned hire car companies for me from now on and failing that, the bus. The process is far too stressful with too many traps and pitfalls that could ruin you financially. I was lucky, you may not be. Take heed.
The basic experience of renting a car was otherwise ok. When returning the car, which I returned outside of working hours, I forgot a sweater from a well-known brand in the car. When I contacted the head office, they promised that they would inform the branch and do their best to return it, but unfortunately, after the first message, I didn't get any information about whether my sweater was found. It's would not be so hard to do so.
Car pick up was easy and the car itself was good although not the one I had ordered. After dropping off I was charged an additional PS40 with no explanation as to why. There was no damage to the car, it had a full tank of fuel. The representative was quick to get the keys back, but didn't mention at the time that there were any problems. I just received an invoice 7 days after my holiday to tell me that they had automatically charged my credit card. Very poor after sales service. As usual with many car hire companies, lots of hidden charges so be aware of this, Budget/Avis are no different. Very disappointed.
The rental car I received reeked of cigarette smoke. The rear cargo cover was broken so when you opened the rear hatch it swung out in your face. It had to be removed to put suitcases in. The final bill was what I expected but the charge to my credit card was $300 more than the final bill. The links provided to get explanation of the charges were broken and all attempts to get resolution went unanswered. Very disappointed.
I booked and prepaid in full for a Ford Focus at Seville airport. But when I collected the the car I was encouraged to take a different car at the same price. I agreed. I was not given a copy of the contract at the time and was only asked to sign at 2 places on a tablet and to leave an extra security deposit on my credit card. How naive was I to trust your staff. I asked again for confirmation the cost was exactly the same and was told yes but when I returned the car was told there was an upgrade fee. I am an Avis preferred customer and should not have been scammed like this. I am disgusted that you allow your staff to treat customers in this way.
Avis is located in the arrival hall how ever you have to leave the Terminal building and go to 2nd Avis office to pick up the car key. Very nice service and I got a great new car! Thank you Avis!
