I have been charged hundreds of euros today when I returned the car for a small scratch!!! I have evidence that it was there before I rented. Something not right there !!! I am going to complain to the authorities.
As others have experienced at this location, I was charged hundreds of euros for alleged damage. I will try to fight this charge but Avis seems to be running a racket on their customers here. Don't think I will rent from them again and I will drop my Avis preferred membership.
Edit: after taking this to their chat service, which basically involves them gaslighting you, and acknowledging their poorly worded contracts (but jokes on you, consumer!), we got nowhere, except that we're still waiting for the preauthorisation to come back to us (EUR860...a lot!). Seriously, go to Hertz. The front service staff are fantastic, however the sleight of hand and poorly worded documents that you sign are a nightmare waiting to happen. Go to Hertz or Sixt, where you won't be swindled of your money. We were sold Super cover, with a verbal explanation, and a contract that stated the max excess we would pay in the event of an incident would be EUR200. Nowhere on our contract was windscreen not covered. Fast forward 2 days, we received a chip on the windscreen from a rock from another car on the highway. Tried to call all the assistance numbers and they all eventually lead to a dead line. So we continued and the chip turned to a crack. No worries, max EUR200 excess I thought. Wrong. Handed the car back and got slapped with a EUR890 damage charge. This is how Avis make money. Buyer beware - use a small local, or go to Hertz or Sixt. Atleast then you won't be handed a holiday ruining financial disaster. Not only did they then charge me for the original al hire fee plus damage, of EUR1562, they took another EUR860 on top of that - and that's proving difficult to get back! Poor contracts, dodgy wording, quick sleight of hand. I'll never rent with Avis again.
Would give ZERO stars if possible! Returned car with full tank of gas and was told by attendant I was good to go. Received final email via email later same day and was charged $42 in gas when car was returned FULL. I filled it about 5KM away. When I called, I was told I had to show a receipt which is not what was stated when I picked the car up if driving more than approximately 120KM which drove over 400KM. Look at other reviews on this location. You can see how the frequently SCAM renters by STEALING from renters via bogus gas charges when car was returned full. Others reporting bogus damage charges. One or two bad reviews are not unusual for a business but when this location has many then the reviews are most likely TRUE. AVIS needs to fix this problem immediately! DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS AT THIS LOCATION. IF YOU DO, MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ALL FUEL RECEIPTS AND TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING, INCLUDING SHOWING THE FUEL GAUGE IS FULL! DO NOT LEAVE DROP OFF AREA AT AVIS UNLESS YOU HAVE FINAL INVOICE WITH NO "EXTRA" BOGUS CHARGES.
They tried to bill us for a minor scratch on the rear bumper (for 360EUR) but thankfully we had evidence and we were able to counter it. They did charge us 41EUR for fuel even though the gauge was showing that the car was full.
Do not rent a car from this Avis location!!!! I was ALSO charged EUR260 for a minor scratch on the rim ----ironically that is the exact same comment that the person before me made. One leaves feeling completely taken advantage of and with a bad feeling toward the Avis brand--Avis should take a look at this Location because they are exploiting customers. I will not return to Avis anywhere. The scratch is so small that one would not even notice it when renting a car. They will find something on the car and charge you for it ---it costs over EUR300 when they add tax and all the fees.
**DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS AVIS FRANCHISE. WE WERE CHARGED 262 EUROS FOR A MINOR SCRATCH ON THE RIM.** My wife and I rented a car for one day from this Avis franchise in June 2024. We had an uneventful 7 hour use of the car that involved no accidents or collisions with any objects. Upon our return of the car, the unpleasant and aggressive Avis representative pointed out a 7cm scrape on the side of the right front alloy rim of the car, and charged us 262 Euros. We inspected the car before we rented it, but an inspection of the rims was not possible as the car was tightly parked beside a minivan. The scrape on the rim was too minor to affect the wheel alignment. Almost every other car on the lot had similar superficial scrapes. Avoid renting from this franchise. We believe that it regularly makes excessive charges for pre-existing superficial scrapes on rims that unwary renters fail to note.**DO NOT BE MISLED BY THIS COMPANY'S ALLEGED WILLINGNESS TO REVIEW COMPLAINTS** In the multiple reviews complaining of AVIS improperly charging for scratches on wheel rims, the company states it is willing to further review the complaints. When it made this response to my claim, it had ALREADY denied my claim. Do not be fooled by these false responses.
Imagine my excitement when I booked my car and was told that we would be able to walk upto a machine enter our details and collect a key without the usual ridiculous hour long queue to collect my car. We got there and the machine was broken and the queue was out the door so once again we had to wait an hour for our car. When will car hire companies put customers first and sort out the queues at the check in desk. They are living in the dark ages. I've provided all my details online, just give me my keys and I can go. Why does it take so long to collect a car. If it's people without booking why don't they have a separate desk for those people so people who have a booking can just quickly collect their keys. It's just amazing they just don't seem to care about customer experience.
