US DRIVERS BEWARE. Alamo / National in Spain (or at least this location, November 2024) no longer accepts USA Drivers Licenses. We had a valid reservation, valid DL, and passport / credit card, but were told by the unfriendly station manager Sonia that US Driver Licenses are not accepted. As we didn't have an International License we were left stranded. We had rented in Spain before on a US License, and had no problems, but here we were refused, citing 'previous problems' with US drivers.
Terrible customer service. Our flight was delayed and they gave our reserved vehicle to someone else (probably to get a better price). The manager was unhelpful and quickly brushed us off. He stated that they had no cars left and spent a great deal of helping Spanish-speaking local customers completely ignoring us as if we didn't exist. We tried making another reservation through Expedia with them which had plenty of cars available on the lot. We were told again that they had nothing left, which showed that their car inventory was not in sync with the their biggest supplier of reservation, Expedia. We left and rented a vehicle from another operator in the airport. Please note Alamo, Enterprise, and National are operated from the same kiosk right by the parking lot and not from the airport building. Big line of confused customers. This place is a disaster, a minus one star not a plus one. Stay away and save yourself a disappointment.
Called earlier in the day to see if I can pick up the car earlier. No can do. No problem, I'll just make time to arrive on time. Show up on time. No car available for me. I needed a van for my family but all they had was a hatchback left and said they couldn't guarantee my vehicle even though I reserved over a month ago. Left me and my family stranded with no options.
Friendly staff. I got bumped to a better nice electric Volvo suv. Brand new car. Handing in the car went quick and smooth. Would rent again here.
Everything went perfectly. The lady spoke Spanish and English. We rented a small car, the fuel was half full and they told us to bring it back as we have found it at the beginning. We signed the forms in Spanish, because we understand Spanish. We could have asked for an English version. Pick up and drop off went very fast. We could definitely recommend it.
I had read about some nightmarish reviews about not having the right car and cars not being the same type as what people reserved. I did not have such an experience. I got a the car that I reserved for the days I reserved it. Moreover, they were very helpful in getting me the right car. I was traveling with a group of 4 adults with luggage so it was important that we got the right sized car for me. We got a standard van which fit all of us plus our luggage and it was the right car for what we needed including getting our luggage to the airport without having to get an Uber to take our extra bags. The only thing that could have been better is if Alamo in Spain offered 3rd party liability insurance since my credit card covered collision and damage to the car and I basically overpaid for insurance coverage. In hindsight, you could do without third party liability if you are a careful driver and not hit another car - a calculated risk.
To echo the rest of the horrible experiences here. They refused to rent me a car because I didn't have an international license. My license is Canadian and is in English. I've been renting cars in Europe for 10 years and never had an issue. Never again will i rent from Alamo, National or Enterprise. Renting another car on short notice sure cost me a pretty penny.
We ordered and prepaid for a Mercedes V class. Upon arrival, the staff informed us that they would not issue the car because we do not have a credit card. We have a Visa Business Platinum embossed debit card, which was not sufficient for them. They didn't even talk to us; they just left us standing there with two children and attended to other customers...
