764 / 5.000 I had reserved the car at Goldcar via Doyou Spain platform which offered a cheaper rate but was very disappointed. A sum of payments that did not stop. First at Doyou Spain two payments with insurance included and once on the spot pay again at Goldcar otherwise I would not get the car. Again another insurance and despite correctly reserved supplements paid for pick up car. In my honest opinion a deceptive situation. At the end upon delivery again paid a fee so-called damage to the passenger seat that was not ours. There was no evidence and no photos taken. Good advice is to force them to check the car together before leaving and not use the Doyou Spain platform.
Overall the experience was nice with Goldcar. They provide a shuttle to pick/drop from/to the airport. The staff is polite, although I had a small fight with one of them. But then they offered me a discount of 15% employe discount on my extra insurance. On the other hand, the security deposit without their Full Insurance is too high; 1700 euros. Also, the fuel deposit is almost 170 euros too. I think this should reduce to 400-500 euros altogether as this is a standard.
Won't be going back. Staff on pick up were friendly. Staff on drop off were extremely rude. The car we chose wasn't available even though advertised on the site. We booked a Fiat 500 Abarth and were given a crappy gutless VW Polo. As they are not based in the airport they shuttle you to the terminal. They told us they would do the same at drop off but they flatly refused curtly ordering us to book a taxi. Never again.
I don't get bad reviews for this company. I've just had another flawless car rental from Goldcar. New car (2k km on the clock), quick pick up and return. No issues with cleanliness of the car or looking for damage. They just check if the car isn't filthy and if there are any scratches over 2cm. People need to understand how the car rental works with this company to avoid confusion. Yes, they will charge a deposit of >EUR1k (depending on the car) if you don't buy insurance with them. Yes, they will try to sell you the insurance. You pay a petrol deposit with them for EUR134 which they will return after your rental finishes. Most car rental companies operateelike that. Many people buy car insurance with external brokers i.e. "car rentals" but this is your external cover and has nothing to do with Goldcar. It's worth noting that this branch is located outside the airport and there is a shuttle bus to the terminal that operates frequently but you might need to wait for it so take that into consideration when booking return time
No stars as this was criminal service. When i picked the car up no damage listed on the sheet. I checked the car and could see a number of places that it had damage. They took a note of that but missed one on wing mirror. When i returned the guy with the beard in the office was a total nightmare. Firstly said that there was sand in the car which they would have to charge me 50 euros to clean but i could vacuum it at the garage, which i did BUT they STILL charged me. Only be became apparent when i got home and checked credit card bills. They also charged me for the damage on the wing mirror even though i had seen in a couple of hours later and taken a photo and sent it to them. Total nightmare. Do not use this company. The guy was really quite horrible
Firstly the actual pickup from the airport was quick no issues Insurance hard sell was not welcome a few minutes after landing in a new place whilst I was getting my bearings, on reflection I should not have taken this out as I did not need it. The agent wrote some figures down including mentioning I would have to pay 3000 euros at one point in the conversation - which was not true when I checked the documents - in this was I was mis sold the insurance which added over 100 euros to the car hire. This also made for quite a stressful start to the holiday. The car itself had quite a few bumps and didn't look clean inside or out on pickup.
in order to be picked up you need to wait outside on the departures area and at some point the van will come and pick you up. There is no direct phone number to call in order to be picked up. regarding staff, I got very kind people when I went to pick up the car, and the most grumpy angry person when she returned us to the airport terminal, so I believe it is just a matter of luck
I must say this particular office, in Santiago de Compostelo, was not at all a pleasure to rent from. We followed the directions that were sent in the reservation to meet the transfer to the offsite office. A Van never picked us up nor did we see a van marked GoldCar. After 3 telephone calls to the office and told first to go to level -3, then to level 1. We waited 35 minutes and still no Van marked Gold Car passed by for any pick up. I'm used to large airports so I can get around. We finally paid EUR8 for a taxi to the offsite location. There we found 6 employees behind the counter chatting. We also saw 2 Gold Car Vans parked. Without any concern or empathy for us. The agent said, NAME? We suggested they put a sign at a meeting point or to at least agree at what the meeting point would be. They said they couldn't. Then it was the hard sell for insurance. Then the focus on blocking amounts in the credit card. It was just awful. Absolutely no customer service at all. My partner just rented a car in Tenerife just a few weeks earlier and it was a much better experience. I rarely lose my temper but they were all awful. I hate that I have to return to this negative location l. They would even tell us where the car was. They said we had to find it in the lot. Absolutely awful experience from start to finish. They do not even deserve 1 star. Gold Car responded to this review. I sent all documents as requested. They responded 3.5 weeks later as follows: Dear J*******, Thank you very much for your email regarding your rental with Goldcar. We are very sorry that you had a bad experience picking up your vehicle. Our colleagues must be courteous and respectful at all times. The comments that our clients send us are a fundamental part of the evaluation process of our staff, so their observations are important and will be taken into account.
