Budget Car Rental in San Rafael

this place sucks. We had the worst experience with not only checking the car out, but with the car itself. It shouldn't be on the road. The wheels are worn down. There were scratch marks and dents all over the place. It felt like somebody just raced this car in Baja 500. Beware if you were going to, rent from budget

Super friendly and got an awesome upgrade!

I had a great experience here today, and what a stark difference from my last rental experience at a different agency. The check-in process was fast and easy (I reserved online), and the folks who helped me were very courteous and professional. Reading other reviews just now, I sort of understand people's frustration when things don't work out well for them because I've been there before too, but their complaints seem to have more to do with Budget corporate or reservations and not reading the business hours in advance. To me they were quite clear that the business would be closed at noon on Sunday.

Worst-ever car rental experience. I picked up a Budget car from SFO airport and within an hour it got a flat front tire. So I called the Budget roadside assistance number and learned that it would be my responsibility to pay for the vehicle to be towed as the problem wasn't "mechanical." This was despite the vehicle having no spare tire and no puncture repair kit. Worse yet, as the roadside assistance person wasn't able to reach the local Budget outlet, I had to call back later - and the auto-attendant put me into indefinite hold (I waited well over an hour but never got to speak to an agent). Then, when I tried calling the Budget number for the local outlet, I got a call center that simply sent me right back to the non-functional auto-attendant. In other words, if something goes wrong with your rental, you're screwed. Budget has zero capacity to help customers when anything goes wrong, and I ended up paying well over $300 to get the vehicle towed, and then had a huge hassle with the local Budget store to get a replacement. Basically, don't rent from Budget because their customer service is effectively non-existent.

Just don't bother with this place! The 2 times I have rented or tried to rent from this Budget they just can't seem to get it together and I'm not sure if it's because they aren't properly staffed or if they just aren't paying attention but the cars are never ready when you arrive on time for your reservation. They do not call you ahead of time to inform you that your vehicle is not ready or that they are having a problem with the vehicle and if they don't have what you reserved available then it's another issue of trying to get a free upgrade or trying to even choose from their EXTREMELY small inventory. I made a reservation to rent a moving truck and arrived on time only for them to tell me I had to wait at least 30 minutes because there was a mileage issue. Of course they didn't even know I had a reservation until I arrived at the office ready to go after waiting for them to help another customer. I did not have time to wait so I canceled my reservation and went down the block to uhaul and was able to get a rental right away. Budget of San Rafael is a joke!

Wonderful business run by local family. It is small, but they do everything to take care of their clients. I have rented from them many many times and they have always worked hard to correct any problems and do the best by me.

This is a wonderful family run business. I am a repeat client and only rent from them. The cars are clean, the owners do everything possible to take excellent care of their clients. The upgrade when possible and are very forgiving if you happen to be a bit late. They are my go to. Thank you, Yasmin

We booked a car at noon, but this place closes at noon. We got there at 12:05 and no one was there. No one called us. They didn't even inform us the place closes at noon when making the reservation. We almost missed a wedding because of this. Terrible customer service. This is what happens when faceless corporations try to take the place of actual people who care about customers. I will never use Budget for the rest of my life. Awful, day-ruining experience.
