I should have learned the first time I had an awful experience at this Avis location, but it was close and convenient to my home. The owner is very rude and always is short with a bad attitude. The last rental car I got from them had scratches and smelled heavily of cigarettes. Once I returned the car the owner called me a few hours later to tell me the windshield was cracked. Upon returning to review the damage there was in fact a crack, and it was really large down the center of the windshield. I had never noticed this crack before and I feel as though I would have after driving the car for a few days. Regardless I'm now having to deal with the owner who is always rude and my insurance to figure this mess out. Save yourself time and energy and go anywhere else to rent a car.
Nice friendly professional service (spring break busy) but unfortunately super disappointed to rent this new 2023 EV Kia. Lack of infrastructure even in Marin. Problem is avis doesn't pre-charge fully and actually there's only one Fast-charger near them .. technically there's two "fast"charge stations but the 2nd is currently inoperable/burned-out fuses (according to the techline) Go see for yourself behind the Village in Corte Madera. Nobody had warned me at the rental counter.. 3 EV non-tsla drivers showed up needing a charge competing w this fast-charger. As we took turns an elderly lady (way out-teched) gave up and left instead for the wholefoods. In 30 minutes - I only got 65 miles boosted. Hooray! Just enough to return the car to Avis. Forced to abbreviate my trip and return the car early sucks but considering how much time I spent, 1/3 of the trip spent hunting for charging stations, waiting for a "fast" charger or driving the opposite way "backtracking" really calls into question my sanity:( ..also, ChargePoint has spotty service and inaccurate mapping features (not sure why)? My conclusion: this works only if a driver has tons of free time and patience. I got pinched out quick and nervous constantly to deplete my batteries (range anxiety) EV Infrastructure seems still very limited - esp.3rd party - I calculate 1/3 of my rental experience was spent searching and waiting to charge or backtracking to get to an available open charger. Not worth it! And so No I don't want to sit all night on a slow-charge (leaving the rental unattended) in a dark parking lot. And/btw. Certain fast-chargers only got us to 60% "max-charge" meaning 168miles total .. weird no idea the machine started throwing error codes/warnings like overheating. I took pictures. We aborted and backtracked 10 miles (the opposite direction) Again super frustrating - Really not worth the aggravation and unnecessary agonies on a vacation. Stick to teslas their superchargers are light-years ahead and more ubiquitous throughout California (never crowded+well positioned for ease) BEST to avoid EV rentals in 2024 - I'm sorry for long review... :(( but all be warned
Friendly Fast and Fair prices too. In addition to keeping their vehicles in excellent condition, They are centrally located with A moderate number of "LIKE NEW" vehicles and pick up trucks to choose from. The location also rents Hertz vehicles as well
Although I got an excellent deal and car, I was charged twice, and charged for extra gas although I topped the tank prior to returning the vehicle. HOWEVER, a phone call to the office quickly reconciled the issues and my account was corrected without any problem. Customer service doesn't get better than this! Thanks Avis!
Customer service was great, car was ready on pick up and I was a tiny bit late on returning but no extra charge incurred. All in all, recommend their services. Some of their cars was very affordable by the way, 5 pax car I rented was $79 including taxes.
I find the proprietor of this San Rafael Avis/Budget branch hardworking and fair, its a convenient location in Marin and the prices are good, as are most Budget/Avis branches. I've rented three vehicles from here, enjoyed them all and intend to continue renting from here in the future. Sure, its not all milk and honey here, as its a small branch, and the manager seems to do all the work (he's often outside cleaning the cars) and because of all of his duties he is quick and doesn't coddle you, but I've had no problems with his treatment, policies or his vehicles.
This Avis office should be closed. Its cars are not drivable and not safe. First off, the guy at the desk gave me a Camry that was filthy. I could hardly see past all the bug and dirt splotches on the windows. I might have lived with that, but not what else was wrong with the car. When I pressed the gas pedal, the Camry groaned, shook, and took its time moving. So, I returned the Camry and was given a Honda Accord. It drove okay at first, though the windows were also dirty. But then things began to go wrong. After about 50 miles, the "low tire air pressure" message came on. I stopped and had a mechanic fill the tires with air. "These tires are stripped," he told me. "You shouldn't be driving with them." Then, I tried to get gas and could not get the gas lid open. I called Avis and was told to go far out to a location that would have resulted in my not making my appointment. In frustration, I used the rounded handles of a nail clipper to pry open the gas lid, which worked without damaging the paint. Finally, on the way home - even though air had just been put into the tires AND I had "recalibrated" the pressure - the low tire air pressure message came on yet again. This time, I just drove home, with the Accord intermittently flashing a scary message that I was driving off the road, which I wasn't. The car was a nightmare! To top it off, I received a "receipt" via email that was blank. Avis has certainly stopped trying harder.
Don't come here! At all!! Worst service I've ever had in my life! The attendant was super nice to rent the car and a jerk when we return it! Go to another company so you can't be fooled!
