DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Like many others that have posted their reviews here, we were scammed and swindled by this company. The agents at the airport openly mocked us and some other clients waiting next to us and refused to address our questions/concerns. We also didn't get the type of car we were told we would get. They tried to make us pay an EUR1100 deposit (almost twice what our holiday cost) and didn't explain why, even though we'd already paid for everything beforehand and then instead made us pay hundreds of euros to avoid it, which they told us wouldn't be refunded. A disgusting company staffed by equally disgusting people. Please avoid them. I plan on contacting the Spanish authorities - the police if necessary - to report them.
After seeing the many reviews from people who had apparently been charged somewhat arbitrarily for scratches etc. I was concerned about getting ripped off. I think the customer does take a big risk by paying the 1100 EUR excess in advance. Other rental car companies that I've used such as Autoreisen did not require any such deposit payment. It's pretty much entirely out of your hands if they decide to take your money and I doubt you'd have much recourse after returning home. The documentation indicated about 10-15 panels of the car were damaged. I could not see hardly any damage by eye. Does this mean 10-15 customers had previously lost some or all of their deposit. At any rate it doesn't fill you with confidence. In my case I did get all my money back but the worry does have a bit of a negative impact on your relaxation on holiday worrying about if the car might get scratched. The actual service at the airport is not particularly friendly and the queue when collecting the car moved extremely slowly.
Long story short. Booked and fully payed a rental car and when we arrived they told us that we did not payed for a rental but payed for preserving a rental car and that we needed to pay 5x the amount that we already payed (wich i refused). On our confirmation mail said that rental is fully paid including all costs. I wil never rent a car from this company again. (No rental, lost my money and bad customer service)
Pick up: - Was given an upgrade which was nice. - Much damage to car was NOT described on the documentation. - Wasted time ensuring documentation reflected reality. - Car had not be cleaned. Drop off: - Cleaned both exterior/interior & filled up just outside the airport. - A new "scratch" appeared on the documentation, which turned out to be a bit of dust! This cannot be incompetence, one can only guess at their motivation! - Time wasted getting the paperwork to correctly reflect reality. - Staff surly & reluctant, having to be cajoled into cooperation. Overall I managed to protect myself (and thus my Insurance company) from being incorrectly charged. Sadly this was not without effort though and it's unfortunate that customers have to be put through this. - Don't be naive. - Examine the car thoroughly, taking photos and video. - Ensure the documentation matches the reality. - Clean & Fuel car before drop off. - Be prepared for Staff attitudes. (Guy at pick-up was actually alright). OR - Take out their expensive highest cover insurance. -- It doesn't need to be like this. In the end I got my full deposit back and so didn't have the hassle of claiming via my 3rd party insurance. Being prepared, I would use them again.
Excellent service! Got the car for 14 days in Spain. Really easy to book on-line. Collection/return was no problem. I had taken the RELAX cover though but it's worth the money. Very recommended !
This car rental service was one of the best I've used so far ! I hired a car for 7 days from the airport, pick up was quick and easy as was return, I opted for mega chill insurance for only a little bit extra and this was for my peace of mind, this also mean 0 euros deposit and if it get damaged you don't get charge! On drop of he only checked fuel levels not even the body work as I was full insurance! The only deposit was fuel 165 euros but this was back in my account 24hours after drop off. Great service will use goldcar again
Would never recommend this company!!! Avoid avoid avoid!! We rented a car at the end of July and also paid for a car seat for our 2yr old which was in a really bad conditionand we asked to be changed as we paid 60PS for it. When we got there they charged us for the fuel which Marta said that we will get back if we give the tank as received which didn't happened until now. We also got an email the next day after return without any extra charges and after a week we received another email saying that the right mirror was damaged, which is strange as we used the car just to get to the hotel and it's been in a paid parking the whole time, facing the wall which makes it difficult to touch the mirror. In the report given by them most of the right side was damaged but miraculously not the mirror so they thought they could charge us. Besides that, they added extra taxes that were never mentioned before and what Marta told us " if anything happens you only pay the cost of the damage". Very unprofessional. I replied to their email on the same day and they replied to mine after 5 days which makes it difficult as they say that in 14days they will just charge us if nothing is done, so they are just trying to get to the 14 days and just charge us. Also, in their reply they stated that we returned the car when the office was closed which is not true as I handed the key to the guy that works there. And even Marta was there at the time as it was 2pm on a Friday. They didn't even mentioned anything that I wrote in the email regather fuel money or the fact that nothing was mentioned at our arrival . I would never ever recommend this company and hopefully you will be careful !!
Really uncomfortable experience with Goldcar. On pick up we were really pressured to purchase additional insurances despite having previously sorted insurances and after the representative finally relented we found the additional charges confusing and we weren't sure what or why were expected to pay for certain things. The car itself was a bit battered and then on returning the vehicle, we had an email the next day to say that the car was fine and nothing extra was needed to be paid. Ten days after this email I have a bill for EUR300 with new damage to the car that they hadn't noticed previously. Ten days in which the car could have been rented out multiple times again and it all feels very shady and predatory. Would definitely not return or recommend.
