Rented a car for a week, which went well, yet upon returning the car in perfect condition and with the gas tank full, the employee who inspected the car for damages tried to charge me for a patch of dirt on the bumper which looked like scratches. After successfully scrubbing it off using my finger, the employee, which acted totally shocked, said that all was good then, and that i can go. After a few days i noticed my bank account was charged for 170EUR+90EUR. When I called them they said that the 170 is for damage and when that happens they also charge you the gas as an extra (!?) even if it was returned full, which was the 90EUR. After a long period of emails and phone calls I finally got my money back, but its just crazy how easily they tried to scam me. Looks like the biggest danger in renting a car there is the employees.
First, we booked the car in category F4A (intermediate SUV) directly from the Centauro website one month in advance. The price was EUR 406 including the premium package for 8 days rental and was a discount of EUR 54 over the normal price. Why do I give a price? If you start looking for a car in Mallorca, you get many prices for the same car and platforms or travel agents sometimes charge more. Second, we scanned all our details (passport driver's license) in the Centauro ID which you can create online. This eventually speeds up the process when you're collecting your car. Another thing is that it's very difficult to miss the location where the shuttle is located. Walking towards the parking garage you see all the shuttles buses from the rental agencies on your right, just before the entrance of the parking lot. Our shuttle bus was parked nearby and is easy to spot given the yellow colour. We were lucky and could hop on the bus as the driver waited. After a few minutes (and when the bus was full) he drove us to the Centauro parking lot next to the airport (and conveniently next to the Repsol petrol station). We went into the office and were fortunate to have only one person before us. The staff speak English (at least the employee we had) but as we speak Spanish we switched to Spanish. As we already scanned our documents, the employee quickly checked the passport and driver's license and asked for the deposit for fuel. If you read the conditions before , you know they're going to ask for this deposit (thus why some people get excited over this, I don't understand). The employee quickly provided us the keys and the place where the car was located. You book a car category, thus the car you get doesn't need to be the same as the car advertised. In our case, the Skoda Karoq turned out to be an Opel Garland. However both are in the same vehicle class (F4A, intermediate SUV Automatic). The car was spotless from the outside and also the interior was completely clean. We did notice some small scratches on the car but filmed and made photographs of everything. Moreover, the car was indeed completely full of gas and on we went. As we needed to pick someone else up from the airport we went to the, by the Centauro employee recommended place. We didn't have any issues with the car thus didn't need to contact Centauro during our stay. They provide a small leaflet with the most important traffic rules and I would recommend reading it as there are cameras checking for speed on the island and one can easily park in a place where it is not allowed. After our holiday we drove to the Centauro parking lot. Just before you're there, there is a petrol station where you can fill the car up till it's full. We did this and drove to the Centauro parking lot. After we parked the car, a Centauro employee looked quickly and told us almost immediately that everything was OK and that we could head for the shuttle bus, which was waiting. The whole process took only a few minutes before we were in the shuttle but to the airport. In short, we had a very pleasant experience with Centauro in Mallorca and would recommend them. Moreover, I would recommend booking with them directly and take the premium option as without you need to post a bigger deposit. Personally the few extra Euro was worth the hassle. Moreover, if you take premium, you get one additional driver for free (something which costs a lot at some other car rental agencies). Also check if rates have changed as it seems that rates can be much lower if they have an offer (and I noticed that these offers also change regularly)
Scam! They charged us "small damage" of 360 eur for damaged plastic wheel cover! The damage was already there but it can't be seen properly from the photos I took from the parking lot at around 23pm when I took the car. She said it was bigger than 5cm so she has to report it (i wonder how they didn't report it before? I also have a photo which shows it from tomorrow morning but they only accept photos from their parking lot)They did it because we booked the car through another site (rental cars by booking), and the lady who checked the car told me that I should buy always full insurrance with them directly. The guy before me just left the car, she didn't even check it properly probably because he had full insurrance with them. Also, we waited for the shuttle bus to airport for around half an hour and when we asked a worker when will the bus go she said in 20min. We said we were gonna miss our flight and she said: good luck! Avoid this company if you don't want to be scamed and trreated like garbage! EDIT: In the document they sent me via email the lady added as damage description: "Minor damage front bumper"! I guess they are trying to fix the old damage with money they charged me. I raised a ticket that this is not the damage I was told I had been charged with but the old one of which lady had a record of (and a picture which she showed me) and will see what will happen. EDIT 2: No reply for weeks and then they just sent me invoice for 360eur not mentioning what was i for, for me to use for refund with my insurance. AVOID if you can!
Had a good experience with them. We chose the premium insurance and there was no issue with Centauro. We rented a nice Hyundai Tucson for 8 days, had to pay a deposit for the fuel, just as precaution in case we don't return the car with the full tank. One day after we returned the car I received the money back directly into my account.
3rd time premium rental with Centauro, first time on Mallorca. Again almost new car, very good service, not had to walt for shuttle bus. When we arrived, we got the keys almost immediately. (Used the app to onboard documents to speed up). Again no problems upon return.
This our third year using this car rental and previous years was much better. This year we going the general organisation terrible from the place to pick up by the bus, the bus pick up process and the car pick up. The bus pick up: 30minutes wait. It's a 16 seat bus. Firstly finding the point of bus pick up is anyone guess as it does not stay in on position, if a bus is not around then you will not know which queue to join. When we arrived there was already about 20 people waiting for the bus. The driver gives out a numbering system. That didn't work as the first two buses were full with those waiting. Waited for 30mins in hot sun. The car pick up: 60minutes wait. On arrival there must have been 50 people in the building waiting. Only 50% of counters open. Numbering system that goes up and down for N numbers which is not normal Booking. The Premier bookings takes preference over normal, hence process first and long waiting times. 90mins from arrival at pick up bus to getting keys. Lady at counter notes that everyone arrived at the same time, then open more counters and speed up the process. Will not be using them again!
It's good considering the price. I booked via Check24 (Corsa or similar) and got a Hyundai i20 with severe damage on the front bumper and I found one more damage. So have a proper look and take pictures. It's worth it. Car drove fine though. The agent was friendly and the transfer worked smoothly. Deposit (1150EUR) was returned almost immediately (deposit for gas (97EUR) took a week).
Absolutely brilliant! We used Centauro hire for the second time, and still extremely happy with the service received. They provide a shuttle bus from the airport to the depot where you collect your car, but the journey is just like 5 minutes. The staff at the counter are very efficient and helpful. I even had a free upgrade (probably being a returning customer). On the return the car was checked correctly, and all deposits returned fast. Highly recommend!
