The worst experience I've ever had. Never again
Never use this rental in Mexico they are inefficient, slow and they offer the worst service, the cars are so dirty old and in so bad status. The security for kids (sits) is the worst and dangerous. Don't rent a car here for your own good
THIEVES. Stay Away! They force sell you unnecessary insurance and wasted tons of my time. I had made a prepaid reservation the day before and left without a car. I have rented cars everywhere in the world, and this was my WORST experience ever. That says it all. I rented another car a few blocks away with 0 problems. Never go here. EUROPCAR CENTRO MERIDA SUCKS.
SCAM. Terrible experience. Made a reservation through amex for a week for 240usd. Showed up the next day, and even got sold on a snall car upgrade for an extra 35usd and only after waiting 45 minutes i'm being told I have to add additional coverage which costs an extra 50usd per day or prepay a 14000USD deposit (not liability coverage which is always included). I was ready to pay 2500USD deposit I have an amex platinum which covers all damage to a car worth up to 85k usd. They know it. I found a car for a similar price 1 block away from a more honest company. STAY AWAY.
Booked a car online through the website, it errored out requiring an "RFC" code but still took my money. Attempted to chat via web portal and their whatsapp support to have them stop replying after the initial "here's my problem", attempted to call this office that the booking was through multiple times to see if maybe they got the booking... no answer on any of the calls. Submitting for bogus charges to get my money back.
We had a great experience renting a car from them. The agent explained us our pick up/drop off options, payment method, insurance and deposit and any extra fees that might occur. We didn't have any issues about getting our deposit back but we did take photos of every part of the car (even wheels) to have proof for scratches/dents.
A BIG SCAM, they charged us more than 100 USD when we returned the car (one day renting), for extra cleaning charges.. explaining that there were some traces of tar on the car and that they need specific cleaning for that.. and they dont allow us to clean the car ourself, we would have done it in 5mns. First time i have problems with europcar. Regarding the other comments, this agency is used to scam the customers regularly, i regret I did not read Google comments earlier..! to avoid..!
There are ripoffs at every turn. Booked the car in advance with a Guaranteed rate only to be charged an additional amount equivalent to 50% of the rental cost for some mysterious penalty for not accepting their insurance. We returned to Merida a few days later and I asked if I could park in their space while we shopped and was told that they needed to charge us ....unbelievable. Oh but it gets better. On returning the car after we filled it the gauge showed 7/8th of tank. Apparently the service station didn't completely fill it. I was aggravated with the station. I said that I would pay for the 1/8th tank....wait for it...$31.50 . After arguing for 10 minutes in which they claimed there was nothing they could do. I clearly stated that I would dispute the charge and would never pay. Finally they said I could take the car and completely fill it....cost $3.00. BTW after filling, the tank did not register the extra fuel...did they alter the gauge. I would have been charged if I didn't have a receipt that was time stamped. This location is filled with thieves, liars, and generally a bunch of crooks. Please under no circumstances should you rent here. There are many other places in the area who may also be crooks but it is hard to believe they would be as bad.. you have been warned.
