Great place to rent a car! Most affordable one we could find, and the car was clean and super reliable. Please note that an employee from Budget will have to meet you at the entrance to the airport, and give you a ride to the car rental location, which is less than a quarter mile away.
AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! The price you see advertised is cheaper than other global brands, but you'll soon find out why. They will try to sell you EXTORTIONATE insurance - more than sixteen hundred bucks for 3 weeks - and if you aren't covered by a credit card, you'll be stuck with it. Even if you have your own insurance, they make up a six bucks a day charge for "activating satellite tracking of the car". If you want a second driver, that'll be ten bucks a day. Then they will absolutely screw you for a deposit: in my case nearly $3,000 was blocked on my credit card for the duration of my vacation. Why Budget allows its name to be associated with this extortionist franchise is beyond me. When the couple in line behind me heard the real amount they were going to be charged, they walked out and went to the Avis next door - so it's not just me. Read the other reviews: don't have the beginning of your vacation ruined because you're fuming over the experience of dealing with this company.
Do yourselves a favor and avoid this place. You might think it's cheaper on the front end but they will stick you with hidden fees (they charged us for GPS services since we declined the insurance) and slow service (took us an hour to get the rental). They charge you a $2000 deposit. This was the only rental company at the airport that didn't have someone at the airport to pick you up. So we walked, which is not fun here at 100 degrees. We also saw multiple people around us with other issues like insurance that was added in the reservation but they also added insurance at the pickup.
NEVER RENT FROM THIS PLACE!! Most unprofessional car rental place I have ever been to. They tried to charge a $2,000 USD deposit for the rental car ( Avis next door charged $300 USD deposit) for the same type of car. They wanted to scan all of your information, when I said I was uncomfortable with all of the information they wanted and they were like you can cancel, or we will not rent to you if you do not give all the information. I ended up going with AVIS which was right next door which was a much better company. They were way more professional, cheaper, did not require half of the information BUDGET was trying to obtain and received insurance for a cheaper price.
Very good service! We had a problem with some lights on the dashboards that kept on, warnings about breaks and ABS system. We rented the car in Cancun and went to the office of Budget Car Rentals in the airport in Merida expecting a repair. Within one hour they arranged an other car for us. Wow, we were not expecting that. Thank you very much for the service!
I made a reservation two month in advance of my trip. They ask for contact information in case of need to reaching out. When I went to lick up my car, the attendant, by the name of Juan, first was surprised there was anyone coming to the counter. Then, after asking what was my name and whether I had a reservation, confirmed I had reserved an SUV (we are a party of five, all with regular size luggage.) He then informed me that they didn't have SUVs available. Not only that, he acted as if it was *my* fault they didn't have the car I reserved available. They only had two small cars. When I pointed out that I had made a reservation and expected them to have the car I had reserved and he could clearly see I had reserved on the list he had in front of him, he got an attitude and pointed out to the almost empty parking lot saying, "I told you, I only have two compacts." What kind of attitude is that?! He was rude, unapologetic about messing up my reservation, and never even offered an alternative or to help out with finding the right size car for my group. When I pointed out that I was not going to get a compact (which actually, was never really offered), and that I hoped this company would not charge me for a cancellation, he protested because there is a cancellation fee!!! What. The. Heck!!!! They didn't have the car I had reserved! I would never trust this place when coming back (come to Yucatan once a year as I have a house here.) And to Juan at the counter, you have horrible customer service skills!
2019/03/12: WORST RENTAL experience of my life. I've rented other cars in MEX w/o issues. First they didn't pick us up from airport and no signs to tell us what to do. Thankful some else at the airport dropped us off. Next, the agent (Leslie) at office kept insisting the price of the rental that we got on expedia was going to be 2x because of "Mandatory" insurance. She use the work "Mandatory" several time and it wasn't until I got verbally angry that she said there will be deposit for incidentals and magically the final price was what we'd been quoted. Finally, since the office doesn't open till after many international flight depart, you are left to leave your car parked outside the office on the street for several hours. I did this and left the car with NO DAMAGE. Now of course, I am shown pictures of a small crack the front bumper, and reminded that since I didn't get the coverage they demanded it will be paid by me from the deductible. 2019/03/14: Response to owner's response: Please provide your email here so I can contact you (and perhaps others that read this can contact you to resolve issues) 2019/03/29: No response from the owner about giving his/her contact info. Budget corporate only cares about paperwork not the deceptive business practices going on here.
