We had a great experience with this car rental service. The process was very smooth, and everything was well-organized. The lady at the counter was incredibly helpful, and the gentleman who delivered the car to us took the time to provide a thorough inspection and explanation. Extending our rental was also super easy--we just contacted them through WhatsApp, and it was done in no time. We highly recommend renting a car here!
I have reserved and paid for a car online, but when I entered the station no car was available. Also for the upcoming days no cars would be available as there was a waiting list. Until today, I did not get my money back. Stay away!
Do not rent here!! This Alamo provides horrendous service and are only interested in scamming you. Carlos is extremely rude and only cares about squeezing the last dime out of your pocket. Martin thinks it's ok to swear at clients in Spanish because he thinks they don't understand it. They gave us a car that worked for one day and broke down on the second day while we were in Progreso. When we drove back, Martin said they would be happy to replace our car without any charge for returning the car with half tank gas since it was a mechanical fault and don't forget to give him a great review. He comes back saying the replacement car would be a smaller car and that he would be charging us the half gas tank since we used it. I asked about getting a discount as a result of the inconvenience of being given a broken car and spending four hours with Martin due to his incompetency in dealing with the situation. Not to mention that they were giving us a smaller car too. I was told "car breakdown isn't our fault so you have to pay for the gas tank and pay the full amount of rent." Carlos wasn't happy that we drove it back but was very happy to let us drive it again to get him a full gas tank. The car was shaking during any acceleration including initial acceleration. Carlos and Martin are entirely incompetent people. They are only interested in squeezing the last buck out of tourists. Carlos made no apologies for the inconvenience of a broken car was intent on charging for full two days and wanted a full gas tank. This is all he cared about. He was extremely rude. They also lie straight to your face. When I requested the franchisee owners contact information to file a complaint, Carlos said he was the owner while Martin said he didn't know who the owner was but Carlos is the supervisor. Please take your business somewhere else. All the previous negative reviews reflect our experience as well.
DON'T GET A CAR HERE. I wanted to rent a car, they didn't tell me the name of the cardholder had to be the same as the one picking up the car or something I didn't actually understand, I cancelled and they told me I was getting my money back in 5-10 days, on day 11 I wrote to them in FB (bc a number on their webpage was wrong) and they tell me I had to send an email to get the reimbursement, so they were actually keeping the money if I didn't do that or asked even though they sent me a cancelation confirmation. They also told me with a very bad mood everything was on the policies (what a good time to mention it). I have rented another car with them before all this happened so maybe if the rest of my experience later this week is better I might change my review.
Really bad experience with this rental car company. My friend and I rented a car through Alamo Merida at the Fiesta Americana, once we got the car it seemed to work fine, until it didn't. About 2 hrs into our drive the serpentine belt company split in half and rendered the car unable to function. My friend and I called them around 12 noon, and was told that the mechanic would have to come to us and help us from Cancun, not Merida. Cancun from us was over 3 hrs away and Merida was only 2, so we thought it was strange but we said whatever and understood that we would have to wait some time. The wait time we were told was about 3-4 hours. Wanna know what time they actually got to us? 7 HOURS LATER!!!! My friend and I sat on the side of a busy highway in blazing hot sun with no food or water for 7 hours. We were lied to numerous times that the mechanic was on his way when he actually wasn't. By the time he did get to us, the mechanic said he didn't even know about this issue til 4 pm which was 4 hours after we called Alamo Merida Fiesta Americana.
Quite literally the worst travel experience you can possibly even fathom. TL; DR- if your Alamo car rental breaks down, the ONLY way to get back on the road is to wait for someone to drive from CANCUN to pick you up. Doesn't matter where you are in Yucatan, help arrives from Cancun. We rented from Alamo to get to Chichen Itza for a day trip. The rental had mechanical failure 1.5 hours away from Merida. We then proceed to wait 7 hours on the side of the road in 95F degree weather. The staff and operations at Alamo are beyond incompetent. They continuously lied to us, informing us the mechanic was arriving shortly, then becoming hours upon hours longer. After making initial contact with Alamo at 12:35pm, we were told the driver would take 3.5-4 hours to reach us from Cancun. Okay we said. This is an awful situation but we can hunker down and get through this. Yet the mechanic did not arrive till it was 7pm! It was pitch black out by the time he arrived. We were in the absolute middle of no where. After threatening to abandon the vehicle on the side of the road and find a way out of the situation, they informed us by saying we were liable for the entire cost of the vehicle if we abandoned it and something happened to the vehicle. We pleaded with staff at Alamo to order us a taxi. They refused. We pleaded with staff at Alamo to send someone out from Merida to pick us up. They refused. "Senor Carter, the mechanic is only 15 minutes away now, I just spoke to him on the phone" Those 15 minutes turned into another 1.5 hours. There are two Merida Alamo locations, this one at Fiesta Americana, and another at Merida International Airport. Even though our rental broke down 1.5 hours away, they refused to send someone out to help us. Their entire maintenance strategy is based upon sending someone out from Cancun to resolve the issue.
We rented a small Nissan March for a couple of days. First an initial overview. - The car functioned - The car had some damage here and there, not the best condition. - Price was too steep (about 65 dollars per day) for what we got. - It took quite some time from the moment of asking for a car up to getting in to drive it. Paperwork took a long time, for example. Why 2 stars? Well there is something fishy here. When we delivered the car, I'd put the key on the front desk. There was another customer on who we had to wait. When we walked to the car to check for its condition, the key was suddenly gone, vanished from the office (Really stupid, I should have held on to it). Anyway the lady didn't know what was going and the good samaritan customer (according to the lady) was already gone. What in the hell happened? They didnt even try to pursue the other customer. The lady did say she looked thorougly everywhere. There was also no spare key, so it took several days before they got to open the car and to finish the paperwork (without us yes). We ended up having to pay for the key... 500 dollars! Completely insane. To anyone who wants to rent here, go somewhere else, stay away from Alamo Yucatan. Or beware, the low ratings do not lie. Horrible handling of a customer. At least a tip for anyone: don't trust anyone, keep your belongings with you.
Very good service and honest service with real expectations. Paulina was an excellent agent! Thank you! Car rental in Merida can be a nightmare with other agencies like Hertz that do not honor confirmed reservations due lack of car availability. Alamo saved my vacation with great service and last min car rental.
