At first, I was excited about the option to pick up the keys from a self-service machine. However, upon arrival, I had to wait 20 minutes because the machines were not working--they kept freezing, and people had to go to the counter instead. After picking up the car, I was disappointed with its condition. The car had significant damage and numerous scratches. The floor mat on the driver's side was in a state as if the car had been used for 10 years. My biggest disappointment came during the final billing when I was charged a penalty for not refueling the car. However, I have three witnesses who can confirm that we refueled the car to full capacity approximately 3 km (5 minutes) before returning it. I immediately sent an email to customer service, attaching proof of refueling, but I have not receive any response to my complaint. I do not recommend renting a car from Goldcar.
AVOID..... at all costs, its not worth the risk. I was warned (after booking) by a friend Goldcar would scam me out of money. When we arrived at the desk it was busy, no problem, took ticket and had a long wait. Once called up, I gave all my details and all was ok until I said I wasn't taking out the insurance (I have my reasons but will wait for the outcome of this before explaining) From that moment the attitude changed and you can almost see them eyeing up how much they can take you for. When we found the car in the carpark it was obviously the garage nail they make their money from, a battered old Clio with 60k miles on the clock - just as my friend had warned, So I did everything by the book from that point and took comprehensive images for evidence should I need it - see an example attached, the car was COVERED in dents and scrapes. Roll onto the end of the holiday, we had used the car to commute to one place and then back to the apartment - the car was garaged when not in use, wouldn't want to get the dents dirty! A week after we returned, Goldbar have helped themselves to a whopping PS960.15 from my credit card with absolutely no explanation what so ever and this is certainly to be just the beginning of my ordeal..... updates to come
Here's a friendly review you could use: I had a fantastic experience renting with Goldcar at Malaga! They offer an impressive selection of the latest cars at very affordable rates, which was perfect for my trip. The staff are extremely friendly and go above and beyond to ensure you have a smooth experience. For a seamless rental, I recommend taking a few pictures of the car before you start your journey--just to be on the safe side! And if you want total peace of mind, go for their insurance package; it's well worth it. Another tip: definitely book online in advance! Their online prices are unbeatable, and you'll lock in the best deals. The staff here are incredibly competent, and I can't wait to rent from them again!
Would definitely use this company again and recommend to others, leaving a review to try combat the negative. I was nervous as well. Car was PS30 for 5 days hire, and yes there is a large deposit but this is clear in the terms and conditions and also expected when paying this price. Add ons are available, they are good if you don't have money to leave a big deposit (1000-2000), but just say no if they ask. I did hear some dodgy upselling to the guy next to me saying he would only have 3rd party and he would be liable for the car but it's not really true as it would only be the deposit. You have insurance, and would need to lose the excess but you can buy excess cover for about PS10 from other online websites that would reimburse this. My full deposit and fuel was back off my card after 3 days, no disputes or issues. Will use again just have some confidence saying no and read up on your terms and conditions and have a general understanding of car hire.
Avoid this company at all cost. I've been to the front desk with a ticket than sent back to the machine for a key and go. Just to be told I'm not a key and go customer. Get a new ticket and back to front desk. This time told I need a C ticket not an F ticket. it's been 90 min so far. I still don't have a car that I have pre booked. Update They canceled the rental because I landed at 7 instead of 12. No notification no email. Just a we don't have a car for you at the counter!
Overall good experience. Booked last minute for 3 days, best price among rental agencies, got a modern car with small scratches all over but they all were recorded correctly. Not most friendly staff, but fast. No fuss at return, would rent again. Just say no to any upsells, it's not that difficult.
I've used Goldcar at Malaga Airport over the past 8 to 10 years and never had any issues. The desk can be sometimes busy but that depends on the time of day. Just take a ticket and wait to be called but usually pick up completed within half an hour. My cars have always been of high standard and often an upgraded model. Only issue this year was I couldn't find a member of staff at pick up to report slight existing damage on car at pick up which was not on contract vehicle diagram despite waiting for 30 minutes. When I returned the vehicle, while I wasn't charged, it was on the checkout final email with a photo of the damage even though it was existing. I was lucky it was only a " level 1" damage but it could have been an issue. Please have enough staff available even at 8pm to review vehicle at pick up to avoid drop off issues. This was the only time I experienced this over all my Goldcar rentals.
First time using Goldcar hire. Easy to find the reception, little tip (you must take a ticket) and wait for your number. Or you'll end up doing what I did, and stand around until someone became available, only to then be told to take a ticket and wait. Saying that, you can just do a quick key pick up on the computer provided, if you know what your doing. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. We had a little trouble finding the car, due to the directions given. But once we were in the right location, the car was located easy (so many different car parks) the car was clean with very minor scratches. On returning the car, all we had to do was find an empty bay and drop the keys off in a box. I would recommend and would be using Goldcar again.
