I love carsharing service in general and this was a good one. It provided us with the flexibility of car booking and save time on car collection from a rental service (every day I passed a car rental queue at our hotel and it looked massive from the start of the day till midday). It's also great not to have to worry about fuel or insurance. It's a little tricky with cars having to be returned to the same parking spot where it was picked up from but I guess it's normal for Hawaii. It goes without saying that you will be relying on mobile service and a phone battery to lock/unlock the car. The app could be also improved as the damage report is in a pop window which could be accidentally closed before you get a chance to submit the report. Some other improvements may include ability to rent a car by 5minutes or something - we forgot an item and had to book a car for 10minutes and wait 20 before we could actually "start our trip" due to the service limitations (car needs to be pre-booked 10 min in advance and only allow to start the trip 5 min before booking). Overall, easy and flexible service - definitely better than rental if you need a car for a few hours only some days of the trip - save money on parking and time on car collection Oh, and just reading some other reviews - you've got 2 minutes to start the car after unlocking - you can unlock it as many times as you wish if you didn't get to start the car first time - just a safety feature.

We used them twice during our vacation in Hawaii. I was only mildly satisfied. The cars were fine for the most part. The process worked OK, for the most part. Their customer service sucked. Nasty, smarmy, condescending, and less than helpful. They're only open during business hours, so when I had a problem early in the morning trying to pick up my car they were not available. They also charge about twice as much as Turo. I've never used Turo, but they seem to have very high ratings (4.8, 4.9, or 5.0 depending on what you're looking at). I don't think I would rent from Hui again.

First thing, it's best to use a credit card when booking because they put holds on funds. Second, it can take a few to 24 hours to verify your information so do not expect to sign up and drive right away. Third, your phone is your key into the car and to start/stop your trip. Make sure you inspect the vehicle throughly and report damage via the app when prompted. The app can be a little un-user friendly at times so make sure your pick up and drop off times are what you actually want. I had an issue with it pick up time trying to default to the current time. Thankfully I caught it. Aside from that, the car I rented was good but it didn't have a fuel card to fill up the gas tank. I tried calling customer service but it was after hours. Thankfully the car had enough gas for my trip but I do feel bad that I left the car with less than a quarter of a tank. While Hui is convenient, there are some things that need to be ironed out in order to be more customer friendly.

I have had the absolute worst experience with Hui. I rented a Corolla for our trip to Oahu. On the first day, we went to go walk around Waikiki and left the car parked in our airbnb's garage. When we came back and decided to get something to eat, I opened the app to unlock it. We stood there for about 20 minutes trying to unlock it, which it would not work. We looked closer at the car's marked spot on the map, and it showed that the car was 2 blocks down from us and could not be unlocked. The car was literally next to us. We were STANDING by it. In order to unlock it, we had to go to the location on the map (2 blocks AWAY) and press the unlock button then race back up to the garage to open the door before it locked down in those 2 minutes. On the second day, we wanted to go hiking. This company claims to be perfect to take the car around the island, right? WRONG! We got off at Waimea Falls to go on the hike, and the car could not be locked or unlocked because there was no service. I think that should be included somewhere when renting that YOU CANNOT UNLOCK OR LOCK WITHOUT SERVICE in case someone locks the door and is in an out of service area. We called customer support. The lady on the phone tells us "Hmm. I don't know, that's a good question." LIKE HUH??? What do you mean you don't know?? On the 3rd day, we had a $400 reservation at Kualoa Ranch. We were all ready to go at 6am, and we go out to the car right. Car will not unlock with my phone. I am standing RIGHT next to it. Customer service is closed, so we can't even call them until 9am. We missed our reservation, and were out $400. And before you think we weren't prepared for any issues, oh we were. We were planning on leaving the airbnb an hour and a half early to reach the excursion just in case we had any problems. We didn't think our problem would be transportation when we rented a car. The pictures below is from the first day, when we wanted to leave in the car but it would not unlock because it said it was 2 blocks away, when we were standing RIGHT by it. I will absolutely not recommend this company to anybody. It is the worst rental car company ever, with no customer service help whatsoever.

I lived car-free in town for a few months and with Hui and a little advanced planning, I did not miss owning a car at all.

As a tourist, Hui is the absolute best. Need a car? Hop in, drive around where you want, then park it back where you got it. Just use your phone app to lock/unlock etc. $15/hr includes gas, insurance too! So super convenient!

It was a little challenging to figure out at first, but a good experience overall. You have to schedule your time and be there to receive the tag number. Then start the car within two minutes or you must reschedule. The car unlocks using your phone and gas is free using a gas card in the car to pay if it needs it.

I am writing this because there are no Japanese reviews. I rented it twice during my stay in Hawaii. It was located right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village called Marina Parking, and was a few minutes walk from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I went to the 5th floor to pick up the HUI Corolla, inspected it to some extent, unlocked it using the app, drove it, and opened the bar in the parking lot by touching the card on the left side of the drivers seat to the bar machine in the parking lot. The gas card was hidden under the mat in the passenger seat. I have unlimited access to smartphones in the United States, so I dont have any problems with reception, but in the suburbs where smartphone reception is poor, it may be difficult to open and close doors. Car insurance is only minimal, so I dont recommend it for people who are not used to driving in Hawaii. This was my third time driving, so driving in Hawaii was easier than driving in Tokyo or Osaka. I was especially surprised to find that the driving manners in Hawaii are much better than in Japan, and the locals are so kind that its only natural that theyll yield to you. Due to the weak yen and inflation, the price of HUI was quite high when converted into Japanese yen, but parking is expensive in Waikiki, so I think its a smart choice to rent only when you need it, rather than renting it all the time and paying for it. The support staff only speaks English, so its best to assume you speak English. E-mail responses are quick and good, but business hours are limited so if you have any trouble, you might be in trouble I used it to go to the North Shore, Kailua Beach, COSTCO, and Don Quijote, but if you want to go around the island, it might be safer to rent a car. Locking with an app may be a high hurdle.
