You may pay a little more with National but it's worth the more professional experience with less haggling / insurance scammery.
The car I was given was in terrible shape. Service and employees are good. I wouldn't go back because of vehicle quality.
Europcar did not honor the car insurance purchase on Expedia. They said that the insurance purchase on Expedia was not valid. They will not release the car unless I make a deposit of the total value of the car or purchase their insurance (which was way more expensive than the one I had already purchased) and they requested $1000 deposit. I called Expedia customer service and they told me that the insurance is valid and they should accept the policy. When the Expedia representative tried calling Europcar, the employee at the front desk picked up the phone, but they hang up on the representative. The Expedia representative said that he called three other times, but they did not pick up the phone. We were at the front desk and saw when the employee hung up the phone. We told them that Expedia is trying to reach out to them, but they said that they have not received call from them, even though we saw them pick up and hung the phone. Since the Europcar employees refused to talk to Expedia, we had no choice but to get their insurance so they can release the car to us. They were also haggling the price of the policy. Another red flag. We were definitely scam and had an unexpected expense thanks to Europcar. Not the way we wanted to start our vacation. Never using them again.
This place is the biggest ripoff cheating lying people they wanted to charge me $188 a day for a car the smallest cheapest car $20 a day for the car and 168 a day for insurance. We went across the street to Enterprise car rental and it was $78 a day for car and insurance. Be careful these people will rip you off if you let them
Reserved using, Expedia , Added Insurance via Expedia, when picking up the car they did not honor the insurance policy that I had already purcahsed, they tried to upsell me their insurnace for an insane amount of $$$ , about $100 dollars per day for insurance. Usually companies in Mexico try to upsell but if you decline they will add a deposit to your credit card, which is fine . the Gentleman at the place told me that its Europcar/Fox rental policy to only release the car if you purchase their insurance.. they do not accept 3rd parties. had to cancel via expedia ended up with NO car :( horrible upsell practices and customer service.. absolute joke of a company. Zero Stars..
Save yourself a disappointment. Long story short we paid thru Expedia and when picking up the car they wanted to add a ridiculous $$$$ fee for insurance. We decided to cancel and they are not responding to Expedia so basically we ended up with no car and wasted money and time. Do not use this company just horrible
I only gave it 2 stars bc one of their employees was very helpful. But we had worst experience with them. When we got there had made reservation, the guy at counter very rudely told us they didn't have our reservation without checking... and rate he quoted was much higher than what we had been told on phone. Not until his colleague came and said yes we had reservation and rate was much lower. We did get out of there fast. When we returned the car, it was dusty... not all Streets are paved in mexico and with pandemic, I would expect car to be thoroughly cleaned inside and out regardless if it was clean when returned. Well since there was dust on floor mats they expected us to get car washed and wanted to charge us cleaning fee. Why??? They have to clean the car and wash it...is it not part of keeping customers safe? It was ridiculous of them being that I expect the car I get into to be cleaned between customers for our safety. We'll we refused to pay for extra charge and our credit card company agreed. We will not be renting from here next time we are in Guadalajara!
