I was first offered a car that smelled completely of smoke, then a car with various minor defects, the defects report was not gone through with me. Then they said I had caused one of the defects. I was a happy Sixt customer until today. Thank you for nothing Sixt Barcelona.

Terrible experience with the return, first they tried to charge me for an additional day of rental when I had clearly returned the vehicle way before the agreed time. Was able to get that reversed but then they sent me another bill for damages that were already on the car when we took it and it was already reported on the hire agreement + we had a lot of photos as proof. Very frustrating experience, would not recommend.

I'm quite sure the receptionist tried to scam me. I had rented a 5008 (IVAR category) or similar for 2 weeks, I also did the rental way in advance. But when I arrived to pick up the car the person on the desk first tried to offer upgrades that I did not want and then he said that the car I booked is not available and I need to upgrade for a fee of 180eur to another car which was a saloon type car and not the type I orginally rented, he said if I do not upgrade then I need to wait for a long time which also did not make sense. Well I the was forced to accept the upgrade. Outside at the parking space the lady was super helpful and I explained the situation to her and she also was a bit baffled on whats going on. He called the man on the desk. After some time the man called the lady back that Sixt will do the upgrade for free. The money was returned after a few emails to the customer support and then the receptionist called me and was blaming me for giving him a bad review. Don't accept any paid upgrades, it's their policy to upgrade for free if the category car is not available.
