I recently had a very disappointing experience with Niza Cars in Barcelona. The car I rented was significantly damaged, and when I asked for a list of the existing damages, they said their system wasn't working and couldn't provide it. Despite renting the car for two full days, there were pointless arguments about the return time. I returned the car at 21:58 as agreed, but they claimed I was late and charged me extra ( they have after 22pm fee return). They didn't mention any extra charges during the return. However, the next day, I received a protocol stating I was being charged an extra 21 euros for a late return 22:21. They also billed me for a scratch on the wheel that I didn't cause, likely because there was no proper damage report. The staff were unprofessional and unhelpful throughout. As a long-time customer, I'm deeply disappointed. I had the video of the car but it didn't help.
First of all, this is a review for those who do not have a credit card available. With a credit card, everything could run more smoothly... but it's still hard to imagine given the way things are done. The staff on site are unfriendly and arrogant. A debit card is not accepted, only the small print in the many pages of the voucher is pointed out. Afterwards, you either pay several 100EUR for additional insurance or you don't get a car. Of course, any money already paid will not be refunded. They don't even look for an alternative solution that doesn't sound like an obvious rip-off. The shuttle bus from the airport to the office definitely doesn't come every 10-15 minutes. We waited 45-60 minutes I can recommend the "Click Rent", which is within walking distance. We got a car here without any problems using a debit card, without extra insurance and without a completely exaggerated deposit
This place scammed me out of 305 EURO. The car was full of scratches when I picked it up, and they found one on the mirror that was about a centimeter in size when I returned it and claimed it was new, and charged me 305 euro. Absolute criminals. They will lure you in with cheap prices, just to rip you off with hidden fees. Complete scam artists. The scratch can literally be wiped off with a wet rag. I've been traveling for work for 15 years renting cars all over and never saw a scam like this.
I booked online with an agency because this was the cheapest option. From pickup until last day everything went smoothly. The staff was friendly and unlike some other companies they didn't insist on selling an insurance. We had a brand new car which only had 200km and we were able to return it in less than 5 mins. Their airport shuttles seemed to work properly but I came from the city center to the train station in a 1 min walk.
Good customer service, staff spoke perfect English. Price was good. Car was great. Easy to organise travel into France and Andorra. Would recommend booking direct and not through a broker. Received full deposit back no problems.
The rental process was smooth and easy even though our flight was delayed and we arrived 1,5 hours later than planned. We walked to the Barcelona shuttle stand following the instructions around 7pm, called the reception and the shuttle has arrived within 10 minutes. The checkin in the office was fast and friendly (we were lucky to be the first ones in the line), left the deposit on the card (no surprises there as I read the policy in advance) and got to enjoy our ride right away - the car was clean and ready to go! P.S. I booked directly on their website and pre-paid the insurance which ended up being a great deal in comparison with other car rentals and their extra charges for every additional thing. Plus, we got a second driver for free while other companies wanted to charge me 80 eur (10 eur/day) just for that.
Even though the service is good at the counter, there was no proper hand over of the car. We rented a LVAR car 3 months in advance. It looked like a 20 years old car. Car was handed over with less than half full fuel tank. It was several big damages from the outside. It is unbelievable how they can hand over such a car to a customer with so many accidental dents. I booked a car and bought insurance through an agency. NIZA Cars is the provider. If you choose not to purchase the insurance from NIZA cars, you would have to place EUR1,500 as a security deposit. But when I checked my bank, they held EUR1,600. Very strange. And they do not accept AMEX cards. (The insurance will come into play later. But if you do not have time to read the full review, remember to shoot a video of the entire car, covering both the interior & exterior.) Upon reaching Barcelona airport, we walked to parking lot G and waited for the bus ferry service. We waited for a good 20 minutes. I tried calling all 3 of NIZA's office numbers and there was no answer. But thankfully the van did arrive. Upon reaching, we had to wait for our turn to speak to the staff although we were the only customers. A lady attended to us and my first impression, she was rude and ignorant. We were obviously not European and she's asking what language we speak natively (after I greeted her in English and provided all the documents in English). I told her we are native English speakers and she said she thought we all spoke Chinese. I said she should visit if she enjoys tropical weather and a multiracial country and she immediately replied "No thanks" with a look of disgust on her face. I had to fill up a small piece of paper with information like my accommodation details and I provided the hotel name and she asked: "There's no address?". There's no need to be condescending. Aside from that, the vehicle we rented reeked of cigarette smoke odour. They should ensure that all vehicles should come default with an odourless baseline. And charge extra to those customers who smoke in the vehicle, especially those with fabric seats. With a mileage of only 18k, the vehicle already has multiple notable damages. But the staff only mentioned 1 damage during the signing of the contract. At the start of this review, I said I did not purchase their over-the-counter insurance. After I returned the vehicle, they told me that they found damage (some light scuff marks on the front bumper) and luckily I took a video of the vehicle during the time of collection which saved me possibly a considerable amount of money and trouble. It is extremely unprofessional and seemingly trying their luck to claim damages from customers who didn't purchase their insurance. And also lazy to leave out majority of the vehicle's damages from the contract. Customers shouldn't have to worry about pre-existing damages by previous renters. You might find other car rental companies with better customer service and integrity. The staff should be more open-minded and less judgmental. Summary: +1 star for the speedy cancellation of the deposit amount upon verifying that the vehicle damage was pre-existing. -3 stars for the horrible cigarette stench, ignorant staff, trying to charge me for a pre-existing damage, and unreachable phone numbers during business hours.
