Extremely Disappointing Experience - Theft During Car Collection I recently rented a car from Europcar at Terminal 1 in Barcelona through Booking.com. What should have been a straightforward car collection turned into a nightmare, as I fell victim to theft, and I suspect an employee at the rental desk was involved. Upon arrival, I placed my bags on a trolley and approached the counter. The staff member present acted strangely from the start. He initially directed me to a computer terminal away from my trolley and became argumentative when I questioned the car I was assigned--a 5+2 vehicle instead of the Skoda Kodiaq or equivalent I had booked. At one point, he insisted I move even further away from my trolley to view a printout, behaving erratically and defensively throughout the interaction. When I finally returned to my trolley, everything seemed intact, but my laptop bag, hidden under a jacket, was missing. I didn't notice until I reached the car and began loading my belongings. Using a tracker, I discovered my stolen devices were already 15 km away. The police later informed me that such thefts are unfortunately common and suggested the employee may have distracted me intentionally to assist an accomplice in stealing my bag. This experience was deeply upsetting, as I never imagined such behavior from a staff member of a reputable car rental company. The theft happened during check-in, and the suspicious behavior of the employee was a significant red flag. I urge Booking.com to review their partnerships carefully and ensure the companies they work with take customer safety seriously. For anyone renting a car at Barcelona Airport, please be extremely cautious and keep your belongings within your own view at all times.
We put the car back outside office hours in Barcelona and had to move the location of the car. If there were instructions for this beforehand that would make it much easier and smoother. Other than that, all was excellent
I had an excellent experience with Europcar at Barcelona airport ! The check-in and check-out processes were super easy and fast, making everything hassle-free. The staff was friendly and professional, which added to the overall positive experience. Based on this, Europcar will definitely be my first choice for car rentals in all my future travel destinations. Highly recommend!"
Stay away, I already payed for my car via Priceline when I arrived I was told cheap upgrade for $6 per day. I said sure, later when I got home I got an extra bill for $660 on top what I payed to Priceline for just 4 days. These people are predators. I tried contacting them via email and phone many times nothing returned. (Predators). And the car I got was fully damaged anyway. I was never given a proper invoice. Even though I asked for it and gave them my email and phone#. (Predators)
I have used Europcar many times and had overall positive sentiments and trust in the company. However, my recent experience in Barcelona turned me completely against them. I booked the car via the Emirates website after I bought flight tickets. The price was amazing Eur140 for 4 days of sedan car rent. I was asked to specify the time for picking up the car during booking. I was 80 minutes late than the time I mentioned. The manager of Europcar said that by T&C my booking counted as a NO SHOW and I had to pay extra to get the car. I decided to do it and ended up with the price of EUR760 for 4 days of rent!!! I addressed my concern and the person on the counter was saying that it was a security deposit that increased the price. The security deposit was never returned. Customer support of Europcar was sending me the initial booking on the Emirates website asking to deal with them. Dealing with negative cases just gets me very exhausted. So I paid Eur760 for a sedan car - I got Alfa Romeo Guilia which was far away from the good condition. On top of that Europcar people in the garage are not speaking English and can not help customers properly. I feel scammed and very disappointed about Europcar.
At the JT Barcelona-El Prat Airport I suffered a harassment on October 21st by the ETRA Park parking system at BCN's Terminal 1. Europcar is responsible for malfunctioning airport facilities. Your Europcar employees at BCN do not seem understand how much a situation like this affects the car rental experience.
The online booking process is relatively easy. It was a quick checkout, but be mindful they charge you extra to travel outside of Spain as a country. Also, make sure to record your car when you first pick it up to know the existing conditions as many of their cars already have damage. Return process is simple, especially since Cristina walks you through it thoroughly and explains everything clearly about your return. I would possibly book again.
This time I had a very pleasant rental with a brand new car with only 70 km. I got a BMW 318D, which was an excellent car for long drives in Europe. The staff there was also very nice and helpful. I
