My son and I took the Mesa Verde Private Tour on 1121.24. It far exceeded our expectations in every way. Our guide Denise was outstanding. Highly knowledgeable and very personable, she answered all of our questions and made sure we were able to see the most impressive venues in the park. Without this guiding service, we would have wasted much of our time reviewing maps and driving past great viewpoints and pullouts. She certainly maximized our time and learning. Highly recommended!!
What a great tour! Tyler, our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable on the history and many other things down to species of bears and mushrooms. We got to see beautiful waterfalls and met nice people on the ride.
Tyler was awesome! He was very informative and accommodating for everyone on the tour. Highly recommend this jeep tour if short on time, but would like to experience all the beautiful scenery!
My husband and I booked two adventures with Rivertrippers and we couldn't be happier. On our first trip we were taken to La Plata Canyon by our guide Hayden. He was very knowledgeable about the area and we felt very safe climbing to nearly 12,000 ft in an amazing jeep. He was very courteous and conscientious about our comfort throughout our trip. On the way back down the mountain he took us to a private waterfall that is exclusive to this company. On our second trip we were taken to Mesa Verde our guide Molly. Molly is also very knowledgeable and has a background in anthropology making her the perfect guide for this adventure. The cliff dwellings were unbelievably breathtaking. It's so daunting to think that people not only lived, but thrived for over 600 years on the cliff of a mountain. I must point out that Molly is an excellent driver as being in the back of a van while swerving back and forth, up and down and around a mountain can be a lot of unwelcome motion on a hot day, but her skillful ability to navigate the winding roads made the trip seem more like a straight line. On the way down she made a special stop and taught us how to find broken pottery fragments in the washed out rock beds. Super fun and exciting as most of us actually did find some pottery fragments. At the end of both trips we were greeted by the company owner who was very friendly and welcoming and truly interested in how we enjoyed our adventures. Super friendly and safe company to enjoy "tripping" with. I highly recommend.
The best part of this tour was our timing. Seemingly, we went at the height of foliage season. The aspen trees were glittering like mounds of gold coins. A few other deciduous trees spotted the mountains. The tour description was for 3 waterfalls and a ghost town. We stopped at two of the waterfalls and drove by a third. We drove by an abandoned post office and a chimney that no longer had a house. I think those two sites must have been the ghost town part of the tour. Tyler, our guide, was a nice guy, We were told multiple times that we could not stop as the road was on private property, or too narrow, or there wasn't time. We also were constantly told that unauthorized vehicles or vehicles speeding by were an annoyance.
I really enjoyed the 2.5 hour Jeep waterfall tour. The history that Hayden provided was an extra plus in addition to seeing the beautiful waterfalls. I especially enjoyed the story about Olga and the meaning of the eyes on the Aspen trees as known to the Native Americans. Hayden also shared information about mining in the area and the damage caused by avalanches. I appreciate hearing back stories of any area I visit. Scenery was spectacular on a beautiful August morning. So glad I booked this tour .... Great way to spend 2.5 hours in the great outdoors!
We had a great time! It was beautiful scenery the entire time. I would definitely say anyone can go on the waterfall tour. We had a few elderly couples in our group who seemed to really enjoy it. Our driver was great and at the end when we came back to the store they gave us cold wet towels, candies, and waters. Will definitely be back!
From start to finish it was an amazing experience! I don't have the name of the person who helped book the experience, but she was very positive and very accommodating. The check-in was flawless and the trip was truly amazing! Hayden was our tour guide and I was amazed at the depth of research he had done to prepare to be a tour guide. The historical facts and information he added along the way really gave depth and meaning to some of the areas we explored. If you are looking for a backcountry four-wheel-drive trip that's more than just a job to a business, you need to select Durango Rivertrippers and Adventure tours! The only thing I wish in writing this review is that I could give more than just 5 stars. I have been on tour such as this throughout my life and I can guarantee you that I would rate them in the Michelin range as an analogy to how they rate 5 star restaurants. Don't hesitate and book this company for all of your outdoor adventure needs.
