After a bad experience at the rental counter in the airport we decided to try one in town and Vanessa made our vacation! She was very helpful and answered all our questions. Was able to get us a great car at a fair price. Thank you so much for helping to make our vacation a dream come true.
Top quality service with a smile. Thank you Mary A for your bright and efficient service making the check-in process so easy. Also a quick visit to the service area was very smooth reassuring me of tyre pressure and EV cables. Thank you so much. I'll be back.
I collected a hire car on 23/10. I cannot recall the females name, however she had a strong Irish accent. She was extremely helpful and supportive, which was very much appreciated. I dropped the car back today, 4/11 at 10am. The male whom I dropped the car back to, was extremely rude. He did no lift his head from his laptop. His whole attitude and demeanour was shockingly poor, which was completely uncalled for considering how straight forward the return process for. I think it was really poor considering such a positive experience when collecting the car.
When we went to pick up the electric car we had booked, we were told that we were too early and shouldn't come back for another three hours. When we returned, we were told that an electric car was not available and that we should take a petrol car. But there was also a plug-in hybrid. We were told to take it to the Europcar station at the airport to swap it for an electric car. They couldn't promise us anything, but it would probably work. When we asked if they could call the Europcar station at the airport to clarify this, they said that the station was not available, the systems were down ...(!?) ... that should have made us suspicious. At Europcar at the airport, we were told that there are never any electric cars at all and that the Europcar station at the port should also know this. Our car was the plug-in with the longest electric range (60 km !) in the fleet, something better was unfortunately not available and they apologized very kindly. In the absence of an alternative, we decided to take the plug-in for our trip and simply charge the battery as often as possible and try to avoid to travel on gasoline mode. But at the first charging station, we realized that there was no suitable charging-cable in the car (only one for household sockets but not for type II charging stations). CCS charging was out of the question because the car was not compatible. We bought a cable for charging the next day - another EUR200 extra - but at the friendly guy at the car return told us, that we would get the money refunded. Not only did we waste half a day picking up the car, drove to the Airport-Station for nothing, we also honestly felt quite ripped off. Apart from that Europcar Ireland should perhaps consider whether they want to scare away customers who are interested in sustainable mobility. Our numbers are likely to increase and the number of charging stations was absolutely sufficient for us - even in the cities on the west coast. Hey you guys at Europcar - don't block the turning towards sustainable mobility, please help drive it forward.
The hours are wrong. Even HQ doesn't have the correct hours (we called). They close at 3pm on weekends until late September (then they close at 1pm). Make sure the agreed car return time is written on the invoice, in case of disputes at least you will have evidence. They have a 2h grace period; but if this city center location is closed, you are screwed, you have return it to the Dublin airport for an extra fee of 34.5 EUR. Also beware the streets are VERY NARROW in Ireland. You don't need 4x4; you need a SMALL car. Don't take their offer for upgrades. You do NOT want to drive a big fat car in this country.
Vanessa at Europcar Spencer Docks was AMAZING. Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. I felt so welcomed & so comfortable. She was so kind, caring & courteous. The car was amazing too
Came to the rental car building in the morning to pick up our car. Was given news that we needed an added form specific to Ireland for our credit card insurance that we were not told ahead of time nor was it listed on our booking confirmation etc. So we were asked to pay double the cost of the rental. I understand that this is likely listed somewhere in small print on the website that we missed. However how we were treated at the rental office made things worse. We were told to wait to the side while we decided our next steps which is understandable. Within 2 minutes we had decided to pay the extra money for the insurance. However were then required to wait another 45 minutes while the agent we originally worked with helped other customers who also needed time to make decisions on what they wanted to do. The agent sat patiently with these customers and never asked them to step aside to help us finish our booking. We were not able to get helped by other agents even when they had no customers with them and watched as many people walked through the door and were helped by the other agents while we sat waiting. No one tried to step in and help us and our original agent would not even look our way. Once she had finished and called us back over she didn't acknowledge our wait or have any understanding of our poor treatment.
I was skeptical about renting from this location due to the poor reviews, but it was an extremely convenient location for my trip, and their opening hours matched my needs. A couple of things that are common in other reviews: 1. Insurance: If you are from the US and your credit card offers international car insurance, like, for example, the Chase Sapphire or American Express, you won't be able to use it at this location, as they won't accept third party insurance and you will have to buy it from them and it is much more expensive than what you pay to rent the car, but it would also give you peace of mind, especially if you are new to driving on the left side of the road. 2. Upselling: The representative was warm and cordial, but it was a bit annoying that they kept trying to make me upgrade the car I had selected, mentioning the "savings" I would make on fuel. They had mentioned that Petrol would cost approximately 350EUR and that I should get a hybrid. I ended up spending 180EUR, and I drove a lot around the country. They also offered me an automatic car, as they have "last minute cancellations" and can get them "much cheaper" than booking online. I had to be inquisitive about the price differences, and it would have been about +400EUR from my initial quote for the seven days I had the car, so I had to decline their offer firmly. 3. Besides these policies that are different from what you are used to in the US, I had a positive experience with the car and was happy with the car I got. I reserved a compact because I wanted a smaller car for narrow roads, but I also wanted to have a screen in the car for the Apple CarPlay, and I think that economic or smaller cars might not always have one.
