Staff unfriendly, They did not have our reserved smaller BMW, but offered us a large SUV. Driving in Ireland would be miserable with a large car, so we finally got them to find a smaller sedan that was scratched and dented all over. We had to video the damage so they wouldn't try to charge us for it. Rental daily fee was $20, but insurance was $100/day for that "beater" car. It was unfortunately the worst day, with the unfriendliest people in our entire 2 week stay. Ireland is amazing beautiful, with the sweetest folks. Budget Rental was thankfully not typical.
Worst car rental experience we had so far. The good: The car was new and clean. The bad: Terrible location. Avoid if you can. The difference in money does not warrant the understaffed location, unfriendly and unhelpful staff. I first wanted to pay the deposit and base the insurance on what booking gave me. ( Return of any paid out damages) This was a big sum of 4000 Eur. After a few canceled transactions because of the limit on my card ( admittedly my fault) the transaction went through and appeared as held in my account. However the employee said he could not see it, told me he could not help and even talked back with quite some attitude that it was my fault for the initial declined transactions. I still have 4k missing from my account. We shall see a few days after the return if they are refunded. My review might go to 3 stars if they are.
We rented a car through third party and called ahead to ask if we could use a debit card. We were told yes, then when I arrived told no, only credit card and I had to buy their own insurance. I wish I read the reviews here first as it seems this is often their method. I asked the lady to show me the terms and conditions, but added why give us the wrong info when we rang? As we drove away the warning light came on for tyre pressure so we went back. A nice lady got one of the workers to take a look and he said he checked and all good. So off we go again.... except no. We get to Cork and light comes on again. This time I try ringing the numbers they gave. No reply. Ring out of hours. Nothing. Ring road side assistance. Nothing. It's now been more than 3h and still nothing. What are renters supposed to do if you won't answer?? We're supposed to be driving on but no reply. It's the worst service I've ever experienced
The staff were attentive and helped me with all my questions, honestly indicating which vehicle would be ideal and in what condition. A beneficial negotiation for both parties, creating a sustainable sales relationship. It's no wonder I've already returned to rent another vehicle with Budget. Whenever I need to, I'll count on the people at Dublin North first before look at another place/another company.
In short : Small rental agency, lots of people, long waiting time, very unfriendly staff, hidden fees. Details : We booked our Budget car with via Carjet (rental comparison site). It's always the same story : you get rentals for 300 euros a week, and it's only 25 euros to reserve, but once you're there, you get told that you need to pay an extra 200 euros for insurance or 2000 euros (yeah right...) refundable if the car is not damaged. Of course, they require 'credit' cards and not 'debit' cards like the ones people usually have. It's also impossible to just put a hold, they need the full amount. They also ask you to pay an extra 120 euros that they will use in case you don't bring back the car with a full tank. In short, as always, there are hidden fees and surprises, and you always feel like you're getting ripped off. I'll also let Carjet know that they should provide all costs with more transparency.
We had to wait for an hour until we got our car and that was because I complained, otherwise we would have waited much longer. When I asked what the problem was, I was told that the cars were being washed... The car that we finally got was dirty. This is, by far, the worse car rental that I have ever used.
The car was clean, fairly new and it worked okay during the trip. Here are a few things that could have been better: - The car that was given to us was not similar or equivalent at all to what we booked. It was wider and taller. It may seem advantageous in a way, but for us it was a bit uncomfortable since we booked a smaller car similar to ours on purpose to avoid adding extra challenges on top of the left-hand traffic which was new to us. Even though 100% of the roads we used were paved, having the size of your car under control is really important in some places since it is not uncommon to find one-way roads where you have to stop frequently to let a car in the opposite direction pass. Be aware of this to avoid any unexpected scratches. - There was absolutely no explanation or briefing at all about things such as car controls, how tolls work in Ireland or the very basics of left-hand traffic driving and what to do/where to call in case of an accident. This is surely really important for many people coming from right-hand traffic as it would be the other way around. We explicitly asked about this and all we got was a "just drive carefully", which is obviously completely useless. In all previous places where we have rented a car, we got a quick briefing to check all these things before starting the trip.
Sure, here is a negative review in English based on your experience: --- **Unprofessional and Dishonest Service** I had a terrible experience with Budget at 151 Lower Drumcondra Road, Dublin IRL. Despite carefully reading all the fine print and ensuring that all taxes, fees, and currency conversions were included in the final price, I was forced to pay triple the amount I had reserved. Upon arrival, they told me my reserved price was impossible and insisted I pay the higher rate if I wanted the car. The location was closing, and the clerk was not interested in discussing the matter, leaving me with no choice. Refusing their price would have delayed my road trip and canceled my other reservations. With all other rental locations closing, I had no option to go elsewhere that day. The lack of professionalism was shocking, and I had zero confidence in their service. To make matters worse, Budget could not provide a receipt with the currency listed, which Expedia required for a refund. When Expedia contacted them, they lied, claiming I had agreed to the new charges. Adding insult to injury, the car provided was subpar. I do not recommend this Budget location. Avoid it at all costs! --- Feel free to post this on Google.
