You have to wait untill the end of time for your car. By the time you get it you already have to bring it back. Really insane long waiting times here
very rude , impolite and racist lady , she claimed she's a manager but she doesn't. avoid them
They nickle and dime you with hidden fees. The most egregious being a 7 euro per day fee to waive their insurance coverage. They charge you to not use their coverage! They never mentioned this fee till after i returned the car. When originally booking the car a 5000 euro hold on a credit card was mentioned if their insurance coverage was waived. While the hold on the credit card seems ridiculously high, at least it was mentioned beforehand.
I cannot recommend Hertz/Thrifty Dublin Airport. They charged me an additional fee of 285EUR for one scratch at the rim of the wheel (invoice 80/5517812) which I think is much exaggerated for one scratch. The person after me was charged an extra fee of 60EUR for sand/dirt inside the car.
Easily the worst rental experience of my life. I rent from Thrifty about once a month for 10 days at a time in the US. Abusive is the only way to describe trying to rent a car from this location. If you have ever been caught in a Time Share presentation, those we Angels next to the folks you'll encounter at Thrifty. Run Forest run...Go Back!...you'll be sorry....Just an update..we returned the car today and Jimmy could not have been any nicer. Its a shame they take selling upgrades and insurance to that level.
At time of writing this review there are 77 other reviews already logged and over a third of these give Thrifty a rating of 1 out of 5. Fairly damning. Why? Because Thrifty and Dollar rent-a-car are both operated by Hertz in Ireland. The Hertz ethos is the problem. Avoid all three is my advice. The other household name car rental companies definitely "try harder" and are a lot more understanding and flexible when minor issues arise. Hertz trade off a commonly held perception that they are the number one car rental company in the world. Customers see them as a safe bet. Great marketing indeed. But do bear in mind, their excess charges are 25% higher than every other mainstream rental company and you may find yourself paying through the nose if you have to make a minor alteration to your booking at the counter on pickup. Company policy sir! I say steer clear!
We booked online and normally there are very few if any additional charges. But with dollar/thrifty/hertz the additional charges were twice as much as our original rental price. Not sure if it's an Ireland thing or not but they should've included all the costs as part of the original booking price so customers know upfront what that are in for. That was only one problem. When we arrived we asked if we could get a diesel vehicle in a compact size they said it would be sgn additional 50 euros to get a diesel. We agreed to the upgrade but they tried to give us an kia sportage suv which was way bigger than what we wanted. We asked for a smaller vehicle and they gave us a dacia duster which is pretty much the same as the kia. We ended up canceling the upgrade cuz they wouldn't give us a small hatch back diesel. After wasting over 2 hours of our time we ended up with a gasoline compact vehicle. This would've all been avoided if they had simply told us they didn't have any diesels in the compact size available rather than trying to up sell us. They tried to convince us that the sportage is the same size as a vw golf only taller. This up selling was after they already tripled our rental cost with bogus fees and taxes.
Very bad experience! Hidden charges everywhere, wrong information on returning car time as got told 2 different times! Then they tried to charge! I also emailed my concerns about being charged double, it has been over 3 weeks (given 1 week at start to give them time) all emails have been ignored, all calls have been kept on hold or told they will get back to me. Struggled with the bank to sort this out eventually as no response from the company. Very poor customer service
