Payless until you get there. Hire a car from Dublin Airport. Had to pay a lot extra when we arrived, then they never had the car we requested the replacement car was dreadful, we left the Airport got about 5 miles when warning lights came on. Returned to the Airport for a replacement. At first the staff were not happy and not very helpful. I did get a replacement .
I'm not one to post reviews, but this is an important tidbit for travelers. I reserved a car at dublin airport with Payless car rental via Priceline. The price was much better than other places. I figured there were hidden insurance/coverage fees that I might be charged at the counter upon check-in, so I called up to ask about these possible charges. The representative told me there would be no additional fees at the desk. Admittedly, I was skeptical but I was on a budget so I trusted the rep. When I arrived, the insurance/coverage actually more than doubled the price of my rental. So be aware of this!
Horrible experience. Firstly, we went to the terminal as our reservation instructed us to & were sent on a shuttle to the Avis/Budget/Payless pick-up location. There we waited in line for 2 hours to get our rental. Our pick-up time was 11:00 am & we didn't get our car until 1:00 pm. Cherry on top was the staff being mediocrely friendly at best. Unsure as to why we couldn't be checked in at the terminal to quicken our process. Ireland doesn't honour the insurance purchased through Expedia so we had to purchase further insurance at the counter resulting in the car costing double what we thought we were paying. The pick-up location was a zoo. As we waited for our vehicle people were given cars that weren't theirs because the vehicle the booked wasn't ready, others were given significantly smaller cars than what they rented as there was no stock & couldn't accommodate their families & luggage. I don't know if it's just Payless/Avis/Budget or if all rentals are like this from the airport but you'd be better off using bus service or using your money for a taxi.
Requested a hybrid Toyota corolla with air conditioning and ended up with a petrol dacia sandero with no AC. This car was nothing like the Toyota and only similar in the fact it had 5 doors. I paid a higher rate on website by selecting this car and AC option and ended up with probably the worst car ever made. Not to mention the EUR30 a day insurance charge that was added on arrival at the airport having taken out a insurance policy already through the booking website. This company seems too cheap to be true and it is as once you add on the insurance it becomes just as expensive as the rest. Giving me a petrol instead of a hybrid also increased my fuel consumption and this made my whole trip end up being a lot more expensive. I would not recommend this company to anyone
Terrible way to start our holiday. Avoid this company at all costs. This company is subcontracted by a bigger company (probably explains why they can charge up the wazoo). Their prices are lower initially until you get asked to opt in for the insurance. The "optional" insurance is the most expensive I've ever been quoted in my history of renting cars. If you choose to decline there is a EUR5000 hold on your credit card. It was cheaper for us to take their insurance than to risk shelling out EUR5000 if a shopping cart scuffs the car. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Book with someone else, they arbitrarily require you to pay for fees over and above the deal amount agreed with Travelocity. We booked a rental car through Travelocity with Payless car rental. We quoted EUR329 including all taxes and fees for our rental. When we got to the rental desk itself, there were additional fees in the rental contract. We asked about these and were told that upon return of the rental vehicle those would be removed from the invoice. They were not removed. We have had numerous emails back-and-forth with Payless (at the email provided in responses to other similar complaints, so don't expect any help as a result of contacting them) and they refused to honor the amount they quoted with Travelocity and refused to reverse the charges that they claimed would be reversed upon return of the rental vehicle. To be clear, these are taxes and fees (which were specifically covered in our quote) not related to additional insurance charges. Travelocity categorically refused to help, as they said the rental agreement was with Payless. In addition, they have exactly one person running the rental desk. People who rented with full service companies instead of payless got priority; so it took them over 2 hours to locate the vehicle and deliver the keys to us. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these shysters. You went with the low rate, but that's not actually what you have to pay... Book with somebody else. UPDATE: Although their reply suggests this is unusual, email response indicates IT IS TYPICAL, and they stand by their overcharges.
I made a reservation for a compact car on Expedia. I was charged 40% more than the original Expedia reservation. In addition, they want to charged me over 300 euro of insurance which I declined, they placed a 4500 euro of deposit on my credit card because she said she was busy and a lot customers are waiting. The front desk lady was impatient and rude. There was always a huge line with only 2 person helping with customers' pickup. Will no recommend Payless and Avis(the same company).
Long >1hr. wait, poorly organized, huge upsell for insurance, cost 4x original quote through Expedia, car was not VW golf equivalent as promised, Car was damaged in underneath not visible so only revealed itself when driving and they blamed us on return lucky we had full insurance,
