Book directly, do not book through Aer Lingus. Quite a surprise when I found our insurance cost. Drop off was easy peasy with a shuttle bus to terminal. Very friendly shuttle driver and person who took car from me.
It's totally ripping off. No more use this company in dublin. Maybe all are the same. Pay for rental. Pay for insurance duble. If you decline pay decline fee. Pay 5000$ for damage first. And.....
Great little Mitsubishi but the body work was scratched quite a bit.
Mixed reviews here. Pros: - Reputable global rental agency (Avis & Budget) so easy to shop for and make a booking - Airport location with multiple free shuttles that run throughout the day and (presumably) night. - Dropping off the rental was a breeze! Nothing like collecting it... see below. Cons: - Wildly inefficient system of checking out your vehicle with multiple queues for different functions. - Initial touch point with staff is to check-in your reservation. They review your details and then ask for insurance. If you decline, you need to surrender proof of what you have for insurance (I use American Express when renting as they cover the usual insurance, but for this location they needed to see it *in writing* that the Republic of Ireland was contained within that policy. After frantically searching on my card's T&Cs online, thankfully I could produce a page showing this). But... they assess a "3rd party insurance fee" which I find out after renting is assessed per day at EUR5.41! - Second touch point with staff is to collect your key. Due to renting an automatic and the timing, this took all told TWO HOURS from walking in to finally getting a key, all the while standing waiting and watching a stream of attendants come and drop off keys (for manuals). - Staff should be empowered to expedite when it's clear that customers are waiting unnecessary for their vacations to begin.
We rented a car this summer for a family vacation. Like many have mentioned already before (unfortunately I have seen this to late) Budget cars Dublin has been a very disappointing experience. Long waiting time, exorbitant (+2000EUR) caution, which does not go through with many cards, so extra insurance has to be booked at the spot, nearly doubling the initial booking value. Staff at the counter seems to be used to this business conduct, so not really supportive, but rather aggressive and arrogant behaviour. The car itself was not very clean and with over 100k km already, the driving experience was widely inferior to many other car rental companies I have used before. I do not recommend.
Try this to be usefull review for others. Do not book with Buget! They will make you to pay nonsense for insurance. We had booking for 15 days with price 130 EUR. But we were to pushed to get rubbish car and final price they charged us was 1164 EUR. They know that when you arrive tired and with family they can play with you and they take advantage of it. Person there plays psychological games and keep you waiting and took people who came after us. We tryed everything: - We did have our own insurance (no accept) - They wanted to hold 5000 EUR - they did not accept our debit card only credir card. We have limit on credit card 4600 EUR and it is not possible according them to split it or use debit card. In total your only option is to take from them full insurance and they try to charge so much for that. They eved do not have fix pricelist. They just increase it on the spot as they like. We solved it that we return overoriced very bad old card and booked with Alamo next to them. And it was perfect. Book with Alamo. No problem there. Luxury car for 130 EUR for 10 days. Deposit only 250 EUR. Much better attitude. No waiting. Do not book with Budget!
Check in and pick up was great except the random charge to cross the Ireland border into UK(Northern Ireland) around 34 euros and got full insurance. When I dropped it off they took me in and told me I had damaged the tire. If I have full coverage why did they waste my time? Also no one checks the car before so why are u checking after?
Slightly confusing set up inasmuch as there are three companies in the building but they're apparently all.one and the same. Anyway I was upgraded for free from whatever basic car I had booked to a Renault Captur. That car is a mini SUV type thing which I was grateful for, given hideous weather conditions that week in December. The car was comfortable and reliable and had just enough grunt. I brought it back pretty filthy after spending a lot of time on waterlogged country lanes. Someone else mentioned a significant charge being taken from their credit card if you supply your own Insurance. In my case I was using a travel card which included fully comprehensive vehicle insurance. Budget wanted to charge EUR30 per day, which extrapolates to nearly EUR11,000 per year. That's a wee bit Rees Moggy in my opinion. A bit Farage. So Budget, as punishment, insisted on taking EUR2000 as a deposit. Not cool. Obviously it was refunded and funnily enough that boosted my credit rating by a couple of points. Also do take photos inside and out of the vehicle and if there are any issues before you leave then make sure to let the rental company know. Return was straightforward, car was in good shape other than mud. No wait on arrival (3pm on a Saturday) nor upon return (noonish, Saturday, December). I find it amusing that people don't know that a credit card is required to rent a car. Bless their little hearts.
