The car hire worked fairly smoothly per se, the car drove well etc. Only a 3 star review from me though, because they take a EUR2500 excess deposit to rent the car unless you pay their extra insurance. I have hired a car with many providers before and I have never paid a deposit of more than EUR500. The deposit took 7 working days after end of car hire to be refunded. The deposit is way over the top, and FYI it goes up to EUR5000 for premium vehicles. Please reduce it!

Alert: I am a recurrent customer, but last time they blocked the deposit for MORE THAN 20 DAYS (still blocked by the way). My card is useless because they haven't unblocked the deposit, I called last week and they said it was going to be released... 7 days and nothing. What kind of process is this?

We had already paid for the rental on a third party site. When we arrived we discussed the insurance with the agent. We were led to believe that the total cost for the 3 day rental with the insurance was now 284 EUR It turns out they charged us 284 EUR just for the insurance which works out to an extra 95 EUR a day to insure a Ford Focus which already had damage to the back passenger side door. This was our fault for being a trusting consumer of a worldwide corporation/brand. This is a heads up to others who might fall into this rental insurance scam. Shame on Hertz/Thrifty.for gouging it's unsuspecting customers in this way.

So here is what I was told when I checked the rental car in this morning after a 21 day rental: G (Hertz employee): Was everything okay? Me: No, we had a punctured tyre in N. Ireland outside Derry and had to pay PS295 for an after hours call out on a Sunday Bank Holiday weekend and a replacement tyre. We had no spare to use only a can of magic gas that didn t work. How do I get reimbursed? G: Did you purchase the 3rd party liability insurance? Me: What s that? No one explained what we d need it for. Also, no one here mentioned you were sending me out on the road with only a can of useless sealant gas and no spare. G: Well, you d be covered if you d purchased the insurance. Me: What was the daily cost of the insurance? G: 32/day. Me: So on a 21 day rental I d be out of pocket 672 to get reimbursed PS295? Mmm doesn t seem to pencil out! G: Afraid so. Me: But if I d had a spare I could have driven on it for the rest of the trip. Where does Hertz take responsibility for sending a car out without a spare. G: Personally, I don t think we should send any car out without a spare, but my company does. Even if you d had a spare, the company would have charged you for the punctured tyre. Me: Wow! Unbelievable! G: But I can waive the 30 for crossing the international border into Northern Ireland. Me: Uuh, thanks, didn t remember going through a customs and immigration checkpoint when I entered N. Ireland seems like there wasn t even a Highway sign stating I d crossed a border (spoken sarcastically). Now I ask you, do you understand why I hate Hertz? I guess even by their logic, I don t know why I have to pay the PS105 for the after hours call out for the repair when no one answered their 24 hr hotline and if I d had a spare, I could have changed the tyre myself. If you are crazy enough to ever rent a car from Hertz, demand a car with an actual spare tire. Now be it know, the people working here were nice people only following Hertz Corporate policies of cheating their customers and sending unsafe cars (no spare tires) out on the road. I will never ever use Hertz again. If you are smart, neither will you!

Hello. I am very unhappy with the service given at Hertz Car Rental in Dublin City Center-South Lotts Road. First of all, I took out additional insurance through Booking for approximately 50 euros that covered the deductible of 2,500 euros, but coincidentally when I had to swipe my credit card at the Hertz office it was not accepted. I called the bank to ask if it was a card problem and they said the card was fine. The only solution to be able to take the car was to take out Hertz insurance. It cost about 32 euros per day. For three days that we had the car it was about 90 euros. They charged our card with 293 euros and coincidentally, with the same card, it now accepted it. They told us that the difference between 90 euros and the 293 they charged us would be returned to us automatically when we left the car. We left the car 4 days ago in perfect condition and with a full tank and we are still waiting for our deposit money to be returned. You can imagine that customer service is not as fast as charging you for additional insurance. Finally, do not think about hiring the GPS service as they will give you a very old device where there is no voice option in Spanish. I hope that with this criticism they respond to us and return the deposit money for an insurance that we should not have had to take out as quickly as possible.

En primer lugar, contrate un seguro adicional por Booking de unos 50 euros aproximadamente que me cubria la franquicia de 2500 euros, pero casualmente cuando tenia que pasar mi tarjeta de credito en la oficina de Hertz no era aceptada. Llame al banco para preguntar si era un problema de la tarjeta y me dijeron que la tarjeta estaba bien. La unica solucion para poder coger el coche era contratar el seguro de Hertz. Costaba unos 32 euros por dia. Por tres dias que teniamos el coche eran unos 90 euros. Nos cargaron en la tarjeta 293 euros y casualmente con la misma tarjeta, ahora si que lo aceptaba. Nos dijeron que la diferencia entre 90 euros y los 293 que nos cobraron nos lo devolverian automaticamente al dejar el coche. El coche lo dejamos hace 4 dias en perfectas condiciones y con el deposito lleno y aun estamos esperando que nos devuelvan el dinero de la fianza. Ya os podeis imaginar que el servicio de atencion al cliente no es tan rapido como el de cobrarte un seguro adicional. Por ultimo, no se os ocurra contratar el servicio de GPS que os daran un dispositivo muy antiguo donde no hay la opcion de voz en castellano. Espero que con esta critica nos respondan y nos devuelvan lo mas rapido posible el dinero de la fianza de un seguro que no deberiamos haber tenido que contratar.

We had rented a Partner-style utility vehicle or similar. In the end we had a Transit Custom hybrid. Surprised and reluctant at first, it was a real driving pleasure (hybrid vehicle therefore automatic, real driving comfort. Plus a powerful regenerating brake which allows you to use the brake pedal only rarely if you anticipate your slowdowns.) The agency is easy to access, and the person at reception is really nice. We will return to this agency for our next rental, this time to go to the South of Ireland. PS: unleaded = gasoline
