Great service, good prices, rent directly from them to get good deals & proper insurance - avoid going thru 3rd party sites. It must be said that a popular lowcost orange airline ripped me off by renting indirectly & not directly with Goldcar. My next trip to Bilbao I will arrange my rental directly & save the EUR280 I lost going thru the big orange airline Staff are professional, efficient & honest, I highly recommend Goldcar & will use them again.
Goldcar did not properly document damages to the car prior to renting it to me. Luckily I made sure to take extensive photos of the car prior to getting in it for the first time. When I returned the car, the attendant told me that there was a problem due to the undocumented damages. I proceeded to show him the photos I had taken before I drove the car for the first time and he said that is fine and I would get my deposit back. Later I received an email notifying me that I would be charged several hundred euros for the damages. After a lot of arguing back and forth via email and sending my photo evidence, they eventually dropped the claim. Dodgy company, not worth booking with them. They also charge a hefty fee if you travel out of the country where you pick up the car.
Staff were great and drop off very easy. Car was old and had lots of minor damage so just a bit shabby and no air conditioning which isn't great for Spain. Going into Goldcar through an intermediary meant double charging for insurance and Goldcar couldn't see the policy cover I had already bought and believed it might be lacking to I paid another EUR130 for 5 days
WORST CAR HIRE EXPERIENCE EVER. SCAMMERS / CON ARTISTS!!! This has been the worst car hire experience I've had in my entire life. The female employee was angry that I had booked through an intermediary comparison company (VIP Cars) and berated me for doing this suggesting that this always causes problems. She then attempted to charge me for more than the required deposit and when I asked why, she screamed "READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS!!" multiple times and pretended not to understand me. She told me I didn't understand anything and suggested I hire a car elsewhere if I had more questions. Despite my clear explanations, the employee also intentionally charged me extra fees that were unnecessary including insurance. When I apologised for any potential language misunderstanding, she rudely said, "Your Spanish is not bad. It does not exist!" When returning the car, the same employee attempted to charge me for a bug splat on the wing mirror until I wiped it off myself with some water. Most shockingly however, the employee then attempted to scratch the car with the car key, not realising that I had seen her. When I grabbed her hand to stop her, she said it was fine and there was no damage even though there was a clear scratch she had caused. The ease with which the scratch was made (through the paint to the bodywork) to me suggest that the paint had already been compromised in that spot for this exact purpose. When I was filming the vehicle during the inspection, she said, "Don't film me, okay!" which I now understand was to avoid being caught scratching the vehicle. Lastly, upon receipt of my deposit, I realised that she had in fact charged my card instead of placing a hold on the deposit amount and applied their own exchange rate (losing me PS50 in bank fees) then informed me that I had been charged for bringing back the car with less than a full tank until I provided them with a receipt from the petrol station next door, bank statement with toll charges showing my route and mileage at pick-up/drop-off. Goldcar - please contact me directly as I would like to lodge a formal complaint.
We didn't wait anywhere either on pick up or on return. The car quality and size were as expected. No surprises - the best experience. Even shuttle service was predictable - as we were told it commutes every 20 minutes, but we waited not more then 10.
Absolute scam artists. Would not recommend this company. Firstly, the desk is not at the airport. We waited two hours for a shuttle bus, despite initially being told the bus arrives every 20 minutes (it does not). Secondly, they force you to pay 200 euros of insurance (despite having our own insurance). Have used multiple European car rentals before, and this has to be the worst experience of them all.
!AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Goldcar Bilbao tried to scam me of over PS650! When we picked the car up we noticed many scratches and dents that hadn't been noted on the car report, we notified the staff member and they told us not to worry about it. As a precaution we decided to take a video of the car to cover ourselves just in case. When we went to return the car they tried to claim that all the damage was our fault. When I told the staff member we had video proof the damage was already there, I was told 'I don't care about your video' and sent on to the airport transport. The next day we got onto the phone with them and were told we needed to contact them via email within 24 hours or money would be taken out of my account. However, when I emailed I received no reply whatsoever, but they still attempted to take over PS650 out of my account. They blatantly tried to rip me off, seemingly deliberately avoiding contact with me.
This company is not only inconveniently located (not in the terminal but a 10 minute bus away after at least a 10 minute wait, we lost at least 30 mins), with rude customer service, but I would go so far as to say criminal in their attempts to charge for any sign of usage. They charged EUR150 for a small amount of sand on the floor mats. And did so once the car was given the ok and I had left. Yes they were cheap, but you can see how that money is made up. Go with the other known companies. Avoid!
