Shadiest car rental ever. Stick with Alamo or Enterprise. Their toll fee is 7.99/day. For reference, the others are 4.99/day. You are better off paying the penalty and tolls. They will force you into paying for liability insurance, even after telling them that you have primary and secondary insurance. They will give you an attitude and rush you, then claim that you agreed to charges. To top it all off, I left my purse inside of the car, with cash. I called them to inform them of it. Mysteriously they didnt find anything. Nobody will call you back and the manager will not care either. Putting a claim online will get you nowhere either. First and last. Absolutely atrocious company and employees.

Shady and unprofessional. Had a reservation with an approximate total of $290, when I got there they asked for my ID and Credit Card I used for the reservation. I asked them 2 times to confirm the total of the reservation. They tell me I need to have to insure the card and toll, I agreed but I told them I needed to know what the total was first. They then say the total is going to be $790. ALMOST AN $500 DIFFERENCE. I was shocked at the price and the receptionist told me that I can definitely shop around and they will hold the reservation. Turns out I can't shop around because they ALREADY CHARGED the card WITHOUT MY CONSENT. So I'm stuck with them one way or another. I tried to argue and let them know I didn't authorize this. I talked to a total of 4 people. One associate, two supervisors and the manager. The supervisors tried to negotiate with my wife about taking some things out of the insurance to lower the price. After an HOUR of back and forth, they bring the manager. Most UNPROFESSIONAL person I've talked to in my life. Extremely black and white, talked over us, raised their voice, were arrogant and NEVER EVER apologized for anything and they never recognized their error. She said that everything was my fault because I agreed to the price, but what they never understood was that I never authorized the card to be charged in the first place. In the end, we didn't want to continue talking to this person so we just took the car since we needed one for the vacation. WORSE PART! When we came back from vacation we get a receipt from them for $870. Not a single explanation on the receipt as to why. My wife and I didn't want to waste our breath with these people so we just disputed it. However, Thrifty is claiming that everything they charged was an estimate and not a total. IF THIS IS NOT SHADY I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

It's okay, got the job done. We pre-booked our car ahead of time for $88.21 for 4 days, over the weekend. When we came in, the location was at the premises of the airport and nearby. A small walk. There wasn't much of a line. I went through the information to verify accuracy. I mentioned my insurance was through my credit card and the lady informed me I have to purchase their liability because credit card doesn't insure that. When I pushed back on purchasing it, she said I can provide my main insurance company, which does cover rental cars. I did and didn't pay the liability. I added tolls and got the paperwork. Surprise surprise, she also added road side assistance for $5 a day, which I decline. She never informed me she added it. We picked up the car. It's a bit of a walk to get it, but not excessive. The car had damage on the rear right, rear left, front right, and minor on the front left. Basically, all corners but worst on those specified corners. The car was definitely side swiped at some point. They took a whole video around the car at my request, and pointed out all the issues there. The suspension was going out on the front right side. I could hear it clunking whenever we turned, or went over a bump. The car was a red 2023 Nissan Versa. When we returned the car it was early in the morning. There was someone there, took less than 5 minutes and we were out. With tax and tolls the car ended up ~$123. They could've been a higher rating of they didn't try to add additional fees thar we didn't ask for.

1st car we got had a broken wheel hub, we returned it within 24 hrs. The 2nd car we were given said it needed service, sticker on the windshield said 15303, and we received the car with 15044. We had to purchase windshield washer fluid AND antifreeze for the vehicle, we were also charged $135.85 more than my confirmation said I would be charged...

I would rate below zero if I could. Incredibly dirty vehicles. Dented vehicles. Stinky vehicles. And then after all of that, they put erroneous charges on your contract. I called to dispute the charges with them, their answer was "you signed the contract". Of course, when you're getting off a plane, you're not reading every line looking for trickery. But it was there on mine and my mom's reservation. I called corporate, but they are privately owned. Go elsewhere!

Stay away from this rental company, lack of customer service and null management. They got dark techniques to rip you off. I recently rented a car with them that had an unnoticed damage and instead of getting a compensation I ended up paying $100 more. The vehicles are in bad shape and poorly maintained.

Worst place you could ever rent in PR.. The car, a whole bunch of scratch damage. It's Had a funky smell of marijuana inside of it. gave complain about it we asked if they had some thing that would take the smell away and they say they don't provide that now they charge me over five days because they say that I stood with the car longer when I've been in the state for the past week and a half. be careful with these people they love to overcharge this is a fraud customer service. I have try to talk to a manager they never there. It's always customer service always gives you the same answer. You gotta wait to the email from the manager so they could clear out your card but they keep charging. Never got an email still waiting.... past due a whole week and still waiting when you call for the manager there's no manager around. from a bull that started at $355 I'm already in up $1400 now fighting for the overcharge they did...

It is the worst company to rent a car from. First, the day I went to pick up there was only ONE person WITHOUT HELP, serving more than one person at the same time. The young man only told me when he gave me the keys that I should not worry about the gasoline because the insurance covered it. He did NOT give me any further instructions. Upon returning the car after 2 and a half days, following the instructions from the airport, it arrived at the place and there was no one there, so when I asked someone who was also leaving the car, he explained to me that only the keys were left inside and I did so. Days later they start charging me on my discount and returns card. I called the agency because of what should have been a charge of approximately $250, they charged me $700. The explanation was that I left the car in another place (when I followed the directions and signs of the airport) charge of a tow truck (in case they had to move it it was meters exaggerating that they need a tow truck) cleaning because as I left the windows down and it got wet with the rain and it is FALSE, and if it is true it is a roof, there is NO point in getting the car wet. Please, if you dont want to have a bad time, dont get carried away by the flashy prices you see on the internet.

Es la peor empresa para rentar un carro. Primero el dia que fui a recoger habia solo UNA persona SIN AYUDA, atendiendo a mas de una persona al mismo tiempo. El joven solo me indico que al entregarme las llaves que no me preocupara por la gasolina porque el seguro lo cubria. NO me dio ninguna indicacion mas. Al retornar el carro a las 2 dias y medio, siguiendo las instrucciones del aeropuerto llego al lugar y no habia nadie por lo que al preguntar a alguien que tambien estaba dejando el carro me explico que solo se dejaban las llaves adentro y lo hice. Dias despues me empiezan a hacer cargos en la tarjeta de descuentos y devoluciones. Llamo a la agencia porque de lo que debio ser un cobro de 250$ aproximadamente, me cargaron $700. La explicacion fue que deje el carro en otro lugar (cuando segui las indicaciones y senalizaciones del aeropuerto) cargo de una grua (en caso tenian que moverlo eran metros exagerando que necesitan una grua) limpieza porque segun deje los vidrios abajo y se mojo con la lluvia y es FALSO, y en caso fuera cierto es techado NO hay sentido que se moje el carro. Por favor si no quieren pasar un mal rato no se dejen llevar por los precios llamativos que ven en internet .

They will ignore your original booking and charge you whatever they want for commission. Thrifty support is a joke and will not help as this is an independent location. If you call and try to get any help, they speak Spanish or pretend the phone doesnt work and hang up. They love to add fees and whatever your original booking is, plan on having it doubled. They do not honor AAA discount even if you booked them through AAA. Cars are all ran through and not great quality. Booked at ~400 just got my receipt confirmed for almost 8.

Hudson fees they don t tell you about , I got a flat on the high way they made me change it and bring it to them I paid for full coverage and gas and when I got their it had over a half tank of gas and then they charged me 54$ for gas never pay for gas with them and full coverage means nothing with them as well both was worthless and yet they charged me a arm and a leg started off as 80$ by the time all the fees and everything hit it was like 500$ go to any other rental just not this one

I had two rentals for one week each on back to back weeks. I got a parking ticket on my first week rental which I emailed them about immediately. I tried to pay the ticket at the their version of the DMV but that is nearly impossible there so I I just emailed them and let them know. They put that $150 charge on the second week of the rental though it occurred on the first week. No big deal. Fast-forward several months later I got an email notification saying I am being charged for an unpaid ticket. I called thrifty headquarters and apparently this company has no affiliation with them and just uses their name and likeness. I have emailed multiple times and had no response. So I have gone ahead and called multiple times and each time it s someone at the desk that answers and says a manager will look into it but they don t. I provided proof that I paid the ticket but yet they will not refund me the second $150 I was charged. Never before have I had such an issue with a rental company. So I would be very cautious before renting with them. Please note that they are also affiliated with the Hertz rental there or at least they use the Hertz name I should say. Additionally, though they do not respond to emails from customer service, notably they responded to my credit card company when I tried to dispute the charge and said that I had never paid the ticket. So I could not have it refuted there. I will report it to the Better Business Bureau though I m not sure if if they govern Puerto Rico.

Just a heads up to the people reserving here, only Do so if you can use your Credit card (not debit) for all charges! Its the only way you have the option to decline any additional services/charges they may imply. With a debit card youll be paying much more then what you are expecting. I called ahead & asked all the questions necessary before making my decision to ensure a smooth car rental experience, & unfortunately this is what I was informed. If you are trying to use both your debit & credit card for deposit, tolls, car rental, insurance etc.. this is not the rental place for you. Thank me later

I paid $103 for damn tolls! I only went to aguadilla once and back to San Juan and once through the Teodoro Moscoso bridge ($3.80 toll). Tolls start in Arecibo, so for a $10 trip to go and a $10 trip to return to SJ ($20 total + $3.80) I was charged $103.87! DO NOT take their toll pass, take the $50 penalty and a few dollars in tolls (will be much less than $7.99 a day). I will never recommend this company. At pick up the lazy employees at the Thrifty desk kept putting a sign for thrifty customers to go to the hertz gold counter outside in the blazing heat at that garage. Took me almost 2 hours to get a crappy Corolla all scratched up, had to pay more to get a Malibu that had roaches and a faulty pos reverse! I paid a ridiculous $1,081 for 13 days! The rate for 13 days was $549.49 and after all the insane fees my total was $1,081! Jesus the employee at the hertz gold booth was extremely lovely and efficient, he is being taken advantage of. Please make sure the employees at thrifty desk on 7/26/24 3:30am in San Juan are fired! Useless employees taking advantage of the only poor guy Jesus at the outside hertz booth, they said they were on break? Really? On break for almost 2 hours at 3:30am?! I will be reporting this toll rip off to DACO in Puerto Rico. Jesus at hertz gold booth gets a 10, the lazy thrifty employees get a 0! I had 3 children roasting outside in the garage on an overnight flight, waited almost 2 hours at 3:30am while the thrifty employees walked around, took the longest breaks of their lives while we could ve been comfortable in the air conditioned thrifty booth inside at the airport! But noooo, let the guy alone at hertz do all the work! What a trashy way to do business! Never again! I know Thrifty is owned by Hertz, but tell me why the only employee at the hertz booth is doing all his check-ins and thrifty s all by himself?! Jesus if you read this stand up for yourself and don t let the lazy thrifty guys take advantage of you! To make it worse don t even ask about how I caught one of the roaches in the car! I travel often to Puerto Rico and this has been the worse car rental experience of my life!

First car they gave us was missing a seatbelt. Traded the car pretty quickly / easily. Was upcharged $4.99 / day for roadside - just didn t notice it when I was signing up for everything because my kids were exhausted from being in a plane for four hours. I should have taken more time to look at what I was signing, of course, but I was never asked if I wanted roadside assistance and I would have never accepted it. I have AAA and my auto insurance provider gives it to me for free, as does my credit card. Lame way to score an extra $20, I guess.

Do not rent from thrifty. We booked online through Travelocity, and we had booked a mini van, for the space (for 7 people) and the luggage space. We got to counter and they gave us a small suv, such did not fit us very well. We had to put one seat down in back to fit all the luggage, but we have luggage at our feet and our little one couldn t use her car seat because of no space for it. The vehicle we are in is cheaper than the minivan we wanted, but They were going to up charge if we switched to a Yukon- so this was a total bait and switch technique, DO NOT USE THRIFTY OR TRAVELOCITY! BAIT AND SWITCH- :(

Be very careful when you go to take the service of this company, the girl who assisted me made a mistake in the reservation that cost me money because there was only one person serving two companies and there were 9 clients, she made the contract wrong and for that reason I had to pay more than half of the extra rent and no one was responsible and the car was in a very poor state of cleanliness

Horrible car rental!! Highly do not recommend. I booked a reservation through Expedia totaling it to $480 for 10 days. Once at the airport, i showed confirmation of booking and the front desk literally said Expedia was not a valid reservation bc it was considered a third party and i had to do booking through them resulting in charging me triple from original amount to $1,000.. When i asked why he stated that i had to use their insurance, liability, and tolls and apparently there was a festival that weekend resulting in the high charges. do NOT book with them. They will triple overcharge and im pretty sure we got scammed. The car was not as clean, stains in the seats and had a smell to it. You would think with all that overcharge of $1,000 they will keep cars clean and tidy. If i could give 0 stars i would ve done it smh

My husband and i had a smooth experience with checking in, and retrieving the car. We read reviews about the customer service and the cars conditions but the only thing we had an issue with was one of the tires had a chunk missing and we were scared it could cause a flat so they immediately changed the car with no hesitation and we were off. We got a nice black Toyota brand new SUV. The price for six days was $485 and we even included tolls. I wish i remembered everyones names so they can all get credit maybe one guys name was jose or jesus
