The car was good, the service was bad. I had to pay the insurance twice! The debit I had to pay hasn't been returned so far! So I paid twice as much for the extras (insurance and debit) as for the car hiring, itself! I think I will never ever choose once again Thrifty!
Been using Thrifty/Hertz for approx 10 years in Lanzarote. Last year a woman at the returns desk tried to charge us for extremely minor damage that they hadn't noticed from previous bookings. We had video evidence that it was there when we collected and she just went "OK" and moved on. Then this year we returned and the same woman pointed out some more extremely minor damage and thankfully we had a video clearly showing it was there on collection AGAIN. They are basically just trying to scam customers in to losing their deposits for damage they didn't do. Unfortunately I couldn't see the woman's name tag. I won't be using Thrifty again because of their repeated dishonesty.
They will claim damages on the car; Make sure you are insured!
Did not check out our car and then claimed a tiny scratch had been done by us on our return. Clearly a racket and something they do all the time. I only received a receipt for the PS180 payment which means I cant claim on my excess insurance. Extremely disappointing from a multinational business.
1 star is even to high. We were all risk insured and they made us sign a contract were we had to pay extra money while we said we did not need extra insurance. We could not get the money back afterward because we signed a contract. We did not know they put a extra insurance in there so we did not know that we signed for the extra cost. Really terrible company, don't rent here
Beware : if you don't want to pay for the Super Collision Damage Waiver insurance, make sure you have a CREDIT card (not a DEBIT card) to pay the deposit for the car. Even if you paid for the booking with a debit card you must have a credit card for the deposit. If you don't, you have to pay for the Super Collision Damage Waiver insurance! Very long queue waiting at the airport desk, as many people including us were caught out by this and questioned it. I reserved the car via BSP Auto and paid 288EUR. the additional obligatory charges came to 243EUR!! This means: renting a clio-type car for a week ending up costing us 531EUR ! But we got 100EUR back once we returned the car (it was a fuel deposit) Returning the car was very quick and easy. Customer service, who I contacted by email to question the charges, were slightly slow to reply, but very helpful.
Easy process, good prices, simple to walk to from the terminal and drive back into. On return they assess the car before you sign it back in so no fear of a sly deductions. Brand new car, scrupulously clean and in great condition.
Getting the car at the airport went very smoothly. Car in perfect shape. Returning the car also went very fast. Behind your rental agreement you find sheets with pictures of all the damage already on the car. First time I encounter such a correct procedure. I reccomend.
